MasterChef Australia judge Jamie Oliver explodes at contestant over her ‘raw’ and ‘undercooked’ prawn dish – reducing her to tears

A female contestant was reduced to tears during Wednesday night’s shocking episode of MasterChef Australia after guest judge Jamie Oliver brutally slammed her dish.

The contestants were tasked with cooking a meal that the judges could eat with their hands, and 27-year-old Alex, from WA, put together a hibachi prawn dish for the panel.

The sales representative presented her meal to the judges and was delighted when Poh Ling Yeow and Jean-Christophe Novelli told her how delicious it was.

However, 48-year-old Oliver thought differently and made a disgusted face when he tasted the dish, and didn’t hold back when he told her what he thought.

‘I’m not that positive. I respect that these guys had a great shrimp, but mine is completely raw and my tail is completely cooked,” Oliver told her upset.

A devastated Alex, who had previously admitted she had been a fan of Oliver since childhood, then burst into tears and ran off the set.

‘I’m completely devastated at the moment. The fact that he couldn’t even eat it just ruined me,” a devastated Alex later told the cameras.

It comes after the new judges faced the public on Monday night.

Andy Allen has returned to the Channel Ten cooking show, along with some new faces in a panel shake-up.

He is joined by French celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli, Melbourne-based food critic Sofia Levin and MasterChef season one runner-up Poh Ling Yeow.

They replace retiring Judge Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo, who tragically died last year.

Last week, the three new judges all shared their excitement about joining the MasterChef family, along with returning judge Andy, as they prepared for the competition.

‘Masterchef has absolutely changed my life. Being here in a new capacity as a judge feels like a wonderful full-circle moment,” Poh said.

While Sofia said that “being a member of this family, this community of food lovers, is a pure joy and privilege.”

Celebrity chef and restaurateur Jamie Oliver will also appear as a guest judge on the 2024 series for a handful of episodes with a thrilling twist.
