Is MasterChef cooked? Viewers tune out Channel 10 show after Jock Zonfrillo’s death – claiming editing is ‘clinical’ and producers ‘lost the plot’
Rumors have it that MasterChef Australia is on its last legs after hundreds of viewers dropped out after a mediocre season.
With the final episode starring Jock Zonfrillo, who died in May at age 46, airing on Sunday, fans flocked to Facebook on Friday to cover what the show has become.
Many claimed the Channel 10 cooking competition wouldn’t be the same without the Scottish-born chef, while others said the producers have ‘lost the plot’.
“Everything that made this show great, auditions, MasterClasses, backstories and what else contestants did, is gone,” one dismayed viewer wrote.
“It may be because of the editing, but it doesn’t feel like a warm hug anymore. Once upon a time, when a contestant was eliminated, you were told why.”

They continued, “Now it’s much more clinical and there’s no explanation. They’re just told they’ve cooked the worst dish and off they go.’
Many flocked to the comments on the post to agree, with one person saying, “It’s sad to think most of us feel like last season with Jock was a buzz.”
Another wrote: “I really hope so [MasterChef] can go back to how it used to be. This particular season has not been his best.’

It continued: “I don’t think it had anything to do with Jock’s disease. If we hadn’t known, I doubt anyone would have noticed anything different about him.’
A third chimed in, admitting they “won’t even watch the finale as the whole season was set up with very few opportunities.”
Others said they “missed” the MasterClasses, Judge vs Contestant challenges, and Katy Perry’s upbeat hit single Hot N Cold once played during the introduction.

The disappointment comes after they expressed their disappointment with the major changes in Season 15 last month.
In MasterClass segments, celebrity chefs work with the judges to prepare a dish and show off some of their tips to the contestants and viewers at home.
But Season 15 hasn’t had any MasterClass episodes, and fans watching at home weren’t happy.
Just days earlier, they expressed their displeasure that MasterChef had dropped its iconic closing credits, which featured Katy Perry’s hit single Hot N Cold.
