It comes as Mason endures a frustrating debut season at Old Trafford following a £60m summer move from Chelsea.
Mason missed much of the season due to a calf injury and made just 12 appearances for Erik ten Hag’s side in the Premier League.
Earlier this month, Erik dismissed suggestions that Chelsea’s desire to sack Mason last summer was the reason for his move to Old Trafford, rather than a willingness on the part of the midfielder.
His departure from Stamford Bridge came after a lengthy contract break at Chelsea, with Mason being sold with just a year left on his deal after the two sides failed to reach an agreement.
ESPN claimed Considering the player was considered an academy product, coupled with the club’s need to raise funds following a significant transfer fee last season, Mason’s departure was seen as the perfect solution to generate much-needed cash.
“I don’t think Chelsea wanted to sell him,” Erik said ahead of his side’s 4-3 defeat to the Blues. ‘They wanted to keep him and offered him a new contract several times. But he wanted to take this step.
‘He is a fantastic footballer. It is first important that he gets and stays fit.’
