Mason Mount ‘had direct talks with Todd Boehly about his future at Chelsea’ last week amid strong interest from Liverpool as the England midfielder approaches the final 12 months of his Stamford Bridge deal

  • Mason Mount has yet to renew his contract with Chelsea, despite it expiring next year
  • He has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Liverpool
  • Co-owner Todd Boehly had direct talks with the England international last week

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly reportedly held direct talks with Mason Mount last week about his future in what is seen as a positive development amid interest in the England star from the likes of Liverpool.

Mount – who has played with The Blues since he was six years old – has yet to reach a new deal with The Blues before his contract expires next summer.

Mail Sport previously reported how there is a breach of contract between Mount and Chelsea as there is a significant rift between the parties in the negotiations.

The England international – who has been the club’s Player of the Year in the last two campaigns – is said to be looking to triple his weekly wages of £80,000, which would put him in line with the other senior players and new signings.

Official talks between the club and Mount about a new deal have now been postponed until the summer, when the Blues will either extend his deal or sell the midfielder – with a touted price tag of £70 million.

According to The athleticdespite the deadlock between sides – which have seen interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Bayern Munich in Mount – the club’s hierarchy holds the academy product in high esteem.

And on Friday, Boehly had a conversation with Mount in which the American reaffirmed the midfielder’s importance to Chelsea and the club’s desire to keep him, it has been reported.

The report goes on to say that this is seen as a positive development as it was previously thought that Mount would leave his boyhood club at the end of the campaign was inevitable.

The talks have therefore increased the chances of the 24-year-old staying at Stamford Bridge and it is now believed that he may not sign a new contract.

This summer is likely to be another big summer for Chelsea as the Boehly-led consortium, which took over in May 2022, continues to reform the club. They have already spent over £600 million.

As well as installing a new manager, with Mauricio Pochettino the favorite to replace Graham Potter in the role, the decision whether Mount stays at the club is another important one.

An England international and with a proven track record at the top of the Premier League and in the Champions League, Mount is expected to earn a hugely lucrative deal at whichever club he chooses, meaning factors on the pitch such as the chance of trophies, playing time and how to maximize his potential will be key in every decision.

The Blues are currently eleventh in the Premier League and return to action on Tuesday with a home game against Brentford.
