England and Chelsea star Mason Mount deletes his Twitter account, cryptically citing ‘the platform changes’ as his reason, with the 24-year-old seemingly headed for a Blues exit amid interest from Liverpool
- Mason Mount has deleted his Twitter account for blaming “the platform is changing.”
- He has come under fire during a difficult season for Chelsea this year
- The 24-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to Liverpool
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has deleted his Twitter account due to “the platform is changing” as the England international has redirected his fan base to other social media outlets.
The 24-year-old has been placed under closer scrutiny this season due to his side’s poor results and has been strongly linked with a departure from the club.
After being named Chelsea Player of the Year in 2020-21 and 2021-22, he has scored just three goals this season amid a slump in form.
The Blues have suffered accordingly, dropping to 11th in the Premier League after a turbulent season to date.
They were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid on Tuesday, meaning Frank Lampard’s side have little to play for the rest of the season.
Chelsea’s Mason Mount has deleted his Twitter account for blaming ‘the changing platform’
The midfielder has netted just three times this season after being named player of the season in 2020/21 and 2021/22
In a somewhat cryptic Tweet, the midfielder announced: “Over the years I have thoroughly enjoyed interacting with all of you on Twitter.
“Unfortunately, the platform is changing, so I’ve decided to delete my account. You all can still contact me on my other social media platforms. Watch out, Mason.’
The Tweet sparked massive speculation on Twitter, with some taking it as a sign that Mount will soon leave the club.
Others thought it was “sad” and indicative of how “despicable” the platform had become, after Tottenham fullback Pedro Porro also deleted his social media accounts following a mistake in his side’s loss to Bournemouth at the weekend.
The Blues have had a torrid season that saw them fall to 11th in the Premier League
Some viewed Mount’s departure from Twitter as related to the platform’s toxicity, while others viewed it as a sign he would soon be leaving Chelsea.
While the midfielder’s reasons for leaving Twitter remain unclear, a move to Anfield this summer appears to be on the cards.
The Reds have recently shown an interest in Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, but Sportsmail understands that Mount is also a prime target for Jurgen Klopp.
Newcastle have also been linked with the England international, but they are unwilling to change their current wage structure to bring in new players, which could discourage players like Mount.
Chelsea will then face Brentford on Wednesday before potentially having a say in the title race when they face Arsenal next Tuesday.
