Mason Greenwood’s move to Getafe has been defended by head coach Jose Bordalas.
The 21-year-old was suspended by Manchester United in January 2022 over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online.
Greenwood was charged with attempted rape and assault, among other charges, but the Crown Prosecution Service announced in February that the case had been dropped.
He is now loaned to the Spanish Getafe, which is currently in fourteenth place.
Asked about the decision to sign the England international following his side’s 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday, Bordalas said at a press conference: “It’s a very delicate situation to play down that issue.

Getafe boss Jose Bordalas has defended the club’s decision to sign the former England striker
“Everyone knows what happened and appropriate measures have been taken. Everyone knows how it ended, with a non-conviction verdict.
“He is a footballer of a very high level and comes to Getafe with enormous enthusiasm.”
Initial reports indicate that United could seek to re-integrate Greenwood into the first-team squad after completion of an internal investigation.
But after huge setbacks, especially online, United rannounced last week that he would leave the club by mutual agreement.
When asked further, Bordalas added: “I can only speak at a football level.
We all know the potential he has. He is a very young boy and we hope he adapts to a very different competition. He certainly wants to regain his professional status and Getafe can help him with that.
