Reports say Mason Greenwood could be given a route back to professional football from an unnamed Albanian club.

The 21-year-old is looking for a new team after United and the player decided to part ways following the conclusion of an internal investigation.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of a number of crimes, including attempted rape, but the Crown Prosecution Service subsequently dropped the charges in February this year after crown witnesses backed down and new material came to light.

United have offered to work with their academy graduate to aid his transition from Old Trafford and could be boosted by interest from an unnamed Albanian side, as reported by talk SPORT.

Interest in the Englishman had also been reported from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard, with the Middle East considering offering the player a £10 million a year contract.

However, Gerrard rejected the option of signing Greenwood, labeling the rumors “fake news.”

Serie A was also considered a possible next destination before Jose Mourinho’s Roma side distanced themselves from the player.

Albania could provide a new base for the striker but has struggled in recent years, dropping UEFA’s coefficient ranking to 47th.

The top of the country has only one team, Partizani, competing in UEFA competition as they try to make it through the Europa Conference League qualifying stage.

Meanwhile, the forward explained that he is looking for a fresh start in football in a statement posted earlier this week, with Greenwood explaining it was the ‘best decision’.

“Today’s (Monday) decision is part of a collaborative process between Manchester United, my family and me,” Greenwood wrote.

The best decision for all of us is for me to continue my football career away from Old Trafford where my presence will not be a distraction to the club. I thank the club for their support since I joined at the age of seven. There will always be a part of me that is united.”
