Getafe president Angel Torres has insisted that Mason Greenwood would prefer to stay in LaLiga after the end of his season-long loan at Manchester United.
The England striker was suspended in January 2022 after he was arrested on suspicion of raping and assaulting a woman.
Greenwood was subsequently charged with a number of offences, which were subsequently dropped. He was then loaned out to Getafe until the end of the season in September, following a United investigation into his conduct. He has always denied any wrongdoing.
It was clear that academy product Greenwood would not play for United again. However, as he completed his £1.3 billion minority investment in the Manchester club, Sir Jim Ratciffe appeared to open the door for a return, saying a ‘new decision’ will have to be made.
However, Torres has remained optimistic about retaining the 22-year-old beyond this term and even claimed that the Greenwood would prefer to stay at the club.

He has a clear conscience,” Torres told Spanish radio station Cope. “He feels very comfortable and is keen to stay another year.
‘It’s a matter for them (United) to decide. There is new ownership. They have to decide. In Spain he has a market, but they (Barcelona) have money. Barcelona’s way of playing would suit him well, but that depends on Manchester United. If it’s true, he’ll tell me.’
Greenwood has been impressive in his performances for Jose Bordalas’ side, who sit 10th in LaLiga. He has five goals and five assists in 21 league appearances this season.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe appeared to open the door for Greenwood’s return to the club in his comments this week
Ratcliffe’s comments earlier this week came as a surprise, although the INEOS chief stressed that he would not speak specifically about the attacker’s case, but rather stressed the importance of reaching a decision that respects the ‘values of the club’ respects.
‘We have to look at the facts, judge fairly and take into account the values of the club.’ Ratcliffe told the BBC. ‘Then we will come out with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.”
