Mason Greenwood believes he can save his parents’ strained marriage by returning to Manchester United, a new claim has revealed.

When Greenwood was loaned out to Getafe last year, his father and agent Andrew accompanied him to Spain, while his mother Melanie remained in Bowdon, Cheshire, where the star lives in England.

The distance has reportedly put a strain on the marriage, and while there are strong rumors that Greenwood would remain in Spain, possibly with Barcelona, ​​there have been counterclaims that could affect his family life.

The sun report that Greenwood believes a return to the Premier League club could be a key part of making their relationship strong again.

A source told the website: ‘Mason has been very happy in Spain and knows that many top clubs, including Barcelona, ​​are interested in him.

‘But his father and mother have been separated for a long time since Mason moved to Spain, and everyone knows long-distance relationships can be difficult, especially given the pressure they have faced since Mason was first arrested in January 2022.

‘It has been a very difficult two years for the Greenwood family.

‘He thinks many of their problems can be solved if he returns to United. He has a very good relationship with his parents, so it is one of the reasons why a move back home is possible.’

Andrew has set up a base in Spain to help his son during his loan spell at Getafe, while Greenwood lives in Madrid with his partner Harriet and their daughter Summer.

After attempted rape and assault charges against him were dropped in February 2023, Getafe offered Greenwood a lifeline in September when it became clear bosses at Old Trafford believed his future lay elsewhere.

After his partial takeover from Man United was confirmed, Sir Jim Ratcliffe appeared to suggest the club could bring him back, with the 22-year-old contracted until 2025.
