Maryland judge Andrew Wilkinson, 52, is fatally shot in his own driveway: Police still searching for a suspect as state troopers are dispatched to fellow judges homes

A Maryland judge was killed in the driveway of his home Thursday evening with what appeared to be fatal gunshot wounds, in what local authorities are calling a homicide.

Judge Andrew Wilkinson, 52, had served as an associate circuit court judge in Washington County since 2020.

He was found in the driveway of his home in the western Maryland town of Hagerstown around 8 p.m. Thursday after local police responded to a shooting on Olde Waterford Road.

Wilkinson was hospitalized but later pronounced dead, the county sheriff’s office said.

A state deputy said police are still searching for the suspect, who has not yet been named.

“Horrible news in Washington County tonight,” Washington County Rep. Neil Parrott said wrote on X.

“It appears Judge Andrew Wilkinson was shot multiple times and died. The police are actively looking for the killer.”

“Please pray for our police and for Judge Wilkinson’s family at this time.”

The sheriff’s office has not released any further details about Wilkinson’s murder.

“We are a six-judge courthouse,” Administrative Judge Brett R. Wilson, a colleague, told the New York Times. ‘We all know each other very well.’

He was born in Guam in 1971 and served as an assistant district attorney in Washington County from 2006 to 2012.

He also served on the Character Committee of the State Board of Law Examiners from 2006 to 2019.
