Marvin Humes reveals going on I’m A Celebrity ‘took a toll on his family’ as he admits it ‘can be tricky’ to balance family life and career
Marvin Humes has reflected on his ‘tough’ I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! experience prior to the new series.
The JLS star, 39, was one of the contestants on last year’s ITV survival show and was the sixth celebrity to be eliminated.
Marvin had to be away from his wife Rochelle Humes and his three children, daughters Alaia, 11, and Valentina, seven, and son Blake, four, for five weeks.
With the series’ 2024 launch episode just days away, Marvin has revealed who he will be voting for, as he talks about how the experience took its toll on his family.
Marvin told MailOnline exclusively: ‘I’m A Celeb was always the one I said I would do when asked. It was perfect because any other year I wouldn’t have been able to do it due to radio and JLS commitments. Whereas last year I had six weeks off, which is perfect.
“I mean, it took a big toll on the family. I think we were away for five weeks in total.’

He added that he won’t be filming any other long-running reality shows at the moment, saying, “Nothing in the short term, but never say never for the future.”
When asked about balancing career and family life, the Kiss FM presenter candidly explained: “There is no magic formula we use to get this right. It can be difficult.
‘In general, one of Roch and I is busier than the other. If I go on tour with JLS, Rochelle will fulfill her work commitments and vice versa. It doesn’t always work that way. Of course we have help from family.
‘We try to ensure that there is always one of us nearby. Sometimes we are both around. We have just returned from a holiday together over the October summer holidays, which was lovely to spend some quality time together.
‘We’re both busy and the kids are busy with school and then with after-school clubs. I want to have that quality time with the family. So yeah, we’re trying to do as much as we can and we’re all figuring it out as we go. But we always do our best.’
Marvin – who is part of boy band JLS alongside JB Gill, Aston Merrygold and Oritse Williams – added that his family is now ‘the priority’, with his career taking second place.
“JLS was number one for us from the moment we started until the moment we first finished in 2013, as if everything was secondary to the band. But it is clear that our lives have now changed, with our women and children, they are the priority,” he said.

Speaking about the line-up, Marvin told MailOnline: ‘One of my friends is there, Melvin. So I will fully support Melvin. Obviously we know others there, but Rochelle and I have a close relationship with Melvin, so he gets our votes every night.”
On Sunday, ITV viewers will see stars including Coleen Rooney, Tulisa Contostavlos, Danny Jones and Melvin Odoom head into the jungle.
Speaking about the 2024 line-up, Marvin told MailOnline: ‘It’s amazing. There are some huge personalities in there. I’m stuck with it this year. Once you spent that time there and were part of it, it’s fun to look back.
“And one of my friends is in there, Melvin. So I will fully support Melvin. Obviously we know others there, but Rochelle and I have a close relationship with Melvin, so he gets our votes every night.”
Giving advice to the new celebs, Marvin continued, “I mean, boring, practical advice when it comes to food, you can’t underestimate how much you appreciate salt, pepper, sugar, spices and flavors.
‘But I would advise them to just enjoy it. It goes so fast. And when I look back on it now, I’m jealous that they got to experience it, because it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but it was also the best thing I’ve ever done.”
It comes after Rochelle revealed she received secret text messages from the producers of I’m A Celebrity while her husband Marvin was in the jungle.

The singer and presenter added that his family is now ‘the priority’, with his career coming second
Each morning, Rochelle would receive a text message detailing the upcoming episode so she could decide if the program would be right for their children.
She told The Sun: ‘I got a text from the producer every day in the morning, as a courtesy, with a little summary of what’s going to be on that night so I could then decide if the kids should watch it.’
“She also said, ‘Everything’s fine,’ which was so weird, when another woman told me my husband was fine!”
The pair enjoyed a memorable reunion towards the end of Marvin’s time on the series, sharing a kiss in the outback.
She now uses the whole thing to remind herself how much she missed him when he was gone.
She added, “It’s a good way to add something like, ‘Oh my God, I really, really missed you.’ I really love you ”back in your relationship!’

Marvin recently became an ambassador for Fairy Non Bio’s #LoadsOfKindness campaign, ahead of World Kindness Day on November 13.
The #LoadsOfKindness campaign is a collaboration between Fairy Non Bio* and PADDINGTON IN PERU, encouraging the nation to celebrate kindness and create a wave of good deeds by pledging their acts of kindness on social media.
Speaking to MailOnline about the campaign, Marvin explained: ‘We live in such a strange world where, for example, on social media not everyone is always friendly.
‘I think in this world you have to choose your words very carefully. It is so easy for people to go out of their way to make negative comments about people that they have no idea what is going on in their lives.
“And I think that makes you take a step back and remind yourself how important it is to be kind.” And this was such a great initiative that came together and people were there making their own commitments.
‘I’ve promised to visit every day an old friend I haven’t spoken to in a while. It’s just little things that definitely make the world a better place, that’s for sure.”
