- Marvel zombiesThe official launch date has been confirmed by Disney
- The MCU’s first adult animated show debuts on October 3
- However, the final episode of the Disney Plus series will not be released on Halloween
Disney has finally revealed when Marvel zombies will be released on Disney Plus.
In a 2025 Marvel animation preview posted on The Walt Disney Company websiteit was confirmed that the comic giant’s first TV-MA animated show would debut on Friday, October 3. That means that the What if…? spin-off miniseries arrives in time for the spookiest season of the year, aka Halloween.
Marvel zombies“The October launch date isn’t a big shock. Last November, Marvel revealed the official release dates and windows for the 2025 Disney Plus lineup, including the highly anticipated arrival of Daredevil: Born Again. Among the latter’s siblings projects, Marvel zombies It was confirmed to release on Disney Plus in October, so this latest announcement only narrows the release window to late 2025.
For the uninitiated: Marvel zombies is a sequel to What if…? season 1, episode 5, titled ‘What If… Zombies!?’. That entry, inspired by Marvel’s “Zombies” comic series, took place in an alternate reality for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – one where, surprisingly, a zombie outbreak leads to an apocalyptic event that nearly wipes out humanity. Marvel zombies will continue the story after the end of that episode, which left Earth’s remaining superheroes, including Spider-Man, still searching for a cure. Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Kate Bishop and Ironheart have been confirmed to join the show’s dwindling superhero roster.
Rising from the dead, but not on Halloween itself
Considering the TV-MA rating, Marvel zombies will, according to the comedy titan’s head of TV and streaming, Brad Winderbaum, be “more hardcore” than previous MCU projects. So what better time to release the studio’s first potentially gory series than the scariest time of the year, Halloween?
The Marvel Phase 6 show comes before the 2025 spooky season, but won’t debut on that date, nor will the final chapter of the limited series arrive on October 31. Zombies will be a four-part event, with a premiere on the aforementioned date of October 3. If all four episodes are released on launch day, it will debut in its entirety almost a month before Halloween arrives. Even if Zombies will follow the traditional MCU TV series release schedule – meaning new episodes air weekly – although the finale will drop on one of the world’s top streaming services on October 24.
Likewise creepy MCU projects, such as Werewolf at night And Agatha all the timedid not debut or end on Halloween. The former mini TV movie arrived on October 7, while the latter was released WandaVision The spinoff premiered on September 18 and ended on October 30, so Marvel has some previous form for not launching its horror-style productions on October 31. Still, I find it a bit disappointing Zombies won’t, especially since Halloween falls on a Friday this year. Stream Zombies‘ finale, in my opinion, would have been a terrifyingly fun appetizer for a weekend of spooky seasonal festivities!
