Marvel star Jonathan Majors’ trial for ‘assaulting’ ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari will begin TODAY
Opening statements will be held Monday in the case against Jonathan Majors, who is accused of violently attacking his ex-girlfriend.
The Marvel star, who was lined up as the next face of the superhero series, allegedly punched Grace Jabbari during a ride home, grabbed her hand and then threw her back into the vehicle as she got out.
The Emmy-nominated Majors reportedly got into an argument with Jabbari while returning from a bar in New York City when she saw a text from another woman that read, “I wish I kissed you right now.”
The allegations have derailed the career of Majors, who starred in Creed 3 and had a major role in the Marvel films as the evil Kang the Conqueror.
Jonathan Majors will go on trial today for the alleged assault of his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Majors, who denies the claims, is pictured at a previous hearing in August 2023
Majors is accused of grabbing Jabbari (pictured right) and twisting her arm on the way home from a night out after noticing a flirtatious text message from another woman. He denies the accusations
Although he does appear in the second season of Loki, Majors, 34, was dropped by management company Entertainment 360 and publicist The Lede Company following the allegations against him.
The incident involving Jabbari, 30, a British dance instructor, occurred on March 25 when police responded to a 911 call reporting she had been attacked during a car ride home.
According to the complaint, Majors forcibly grabbed Jabari by her right middle finger, causing “bruising, swelling and significant pain.”
Jabbari himself has been accused in a separate case of attacking Majors. His lawyers claim she was the aggressor
The complaint states: “I (Jabbari) further observed the defendant grab my right arm, place it behind my body and use his hands to twist my right forearm and right middle finger, causing significant pain to my right forearm and right middle finger .
'I further observed the defendant hitting me over my right ear with his hand, causing significant pain and a laceration behind my right ear.
“I also saw that the suspect pushed me back into the vehicle with both hands, causing me to fall backwards.”
Majors has denied two charges of third-degree assault, second-degree aggravated harassment, attempted third-degree assault and second-degree harassment.
He has agreed to abide by a restraining order that a judge imposed on Jabarri in April, preventing him from contacting her.
A Rolling Stone magazine article published in June said Majors had a history of violent behavior dating back decades, including abusing two former partners — claims he strongly denied.
The majors' lawyers have aggressively attacked Jabarri, calling her claims a “complete lie.”
In response to Major's arrest, they filed a counter complaint against Jabbari, claiming she was the one who attacked him in a “wild rage.”
New York police arrested Jabbari in October and charged her with assault and criminal mischief for her role in the altercation with Majors.
But the Manhattan district attorney declined to prosecute the case because it lacked “prosecutive merit,” as a spokesperson put it.
Majors' lawyer Priya Chaudhry released text messages that Jabbari sent to him in the hours after the alleged attack, which they claimed showed her as the aggressor.
Jabbari wrote, “Please let me know you are doing well when you hear this. They assured me that I will not be charged.
Lawyers for embattled actor Jonathan Majors have argued that surveillance video exonerates their client in his ongoing domestic violence case, citing footage showing his accuser (circled) going out and socializing in the hours after she said he was attacked.
“They said they had to arrest you as protocol when they saw the injuries on me and knew we were arguing. I'm so angry that they did that. And I'm sorry you're in this position.
'Will make sure nothing happens about this. I told them it was my fault for trying to take your phone.”
Jabbari added, “Just call me when you're gone. I love you'.
Three hours later, Jabbari wrote again that police had called her again and that she “reiterated that this was not an assault and that they do not have my consent for any charges.”
She continued: “I read in the paper they gave me about strangulation and I said straight out that this was not happening and should be removed immediately.
“I also said that I had to tell the judge that the origin of the call had to do with me collapsing and passing out and that you were concerned as my partner because of our previous communication. Out of care'.
Major's performance in Creed III earned rave reviews, with the star generating Oscar buzz for another project in 2024 – but Jabbari's allegations have seriously damaged the star's budding career
Chaudry has said video evidence from the vehicle where the incident occurred will exonerate her client, along with witness statements from two women.
She has alleged that the prosecutor is using his office to “weaponize allegations involving a black man being accused by a white woman.”
But prosecutors plan to call several of Majors' former girlfriends as witnesses to testify against him.
They also plan to present evidence about an incident in London in September 2022 where Majors was filming Loki, leading to the filing of a police report.
Majors' big break came in 2019 when he appeared the following year in “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” before the HBO series “Lovecraft Country.”
His performances in 'Creed 3' and 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' were critically acclaimed and loved by fans.
“Magazine Dreams,” an upcoming film starring him as a troubled bodybuilder, has been put on hold — the film was originally slated for release this fall and was considered an Oscar contender.
