Martin Scorsese is supported by daughter Francesca and wife Helen Morris amid her Parkinson’s battle as he’s honored at 2023 WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards in NYC
Martin Scorsese joined another in a long line of accolades when he was honored at the 2023 WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards in New York City on Wednesday.
The 80-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker made his appearance a family affair as he joined his daughter Francesca Scorsese, 23, and his wife Helen Morris, 76, who has been battling Parkinson’s disease since her 1990 diagnosis.
Scorsese was honored as the evening’s film innovator, receiving the award just weeks after the theatrical release of his latest film, the Western crime epic Killers Of The Flower Moon.
The director was also spotted catching up with Timothée Chalamet, who during the veteran filmmaker’s introduction joked that their first collaboration wasn’t on one of his critically acclaimed films, but instead on a Chanel commercial that Scorsese directed.
Scorsese, who is also one of the most influential advocates of film preservation ever, looked distinguished in a charcoal three-piece suit, which he paired with black patent leather shoes and a gray, white and black striped tie.

Francesca, an emerging filmmaker herself, rocked a sleeveless sack dress with chic punky black and white illustrations on it.
Her long blonde hair was pinned up at the ends as it rested on her shoulders, and she wore bold eye shadow.
Francesca is best known to cinephiles (and TikTok users) for a series of hilarious videos she makes with her father, poking fun at his knowledge (or lack thereof) of modern slang.
But the clips also offer him a new platform to defend the art of cinema, a passion he has now passed on to Francesca, the youngest of his three daughters from different marriages.
His wife Helen, who has worked as a television producer, looked stylish in an all-white suit with large black buttons.
She used a wheelchair to get around with her family and carried a black striped handbag on her lap.
Scorsese has worked with countless A-stars over his six-decade career, and he rubbed shoulders with another, Timothée Chalamet, on the red carpet.

Although Chalamet was at the ceremony to introduce the older artist, he also accompanied his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, who was honored with the Brand Award.

According to the magazine, Scorsese highlighted how technological changes and advancements had transformed the film industry.
However, the director also warned that new technologies are only a tool that should not become a creativity-limiting crutch.
“The tool itself wouldn’t give me anything new,” he said. “I had to make it.”
Scorsese’s latest film, Killers Of The Flower, is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by David Grann, which describes the fate of the Osage Nation in the 1920s and 1930s.
After being pushed further west by the U.S. government, the tribe eventually settled on arid land in Oklahoma. However, the land turned out to be blessed – or cursed – with oil reserves, of which the Osage became the owners thanks to the language of the contracts that granted them the land.

Following its theatrical screening, Killers Of The Flower Moon will be available to stream on Apple TV+.
