- But admitted that the Gunners are still building their reputation under Arteta
Arsenal legend Martin Keown believes his former side will eventually win the Premier League title under the management of Mikel Arteta and insisted they have not ‘bottled’ the league if they fall short this season.
The former title-winning centre-back is confident that his former club will be heading in the direction of one day being crowned top English champions.
Keown highlighted the contrasts between this season’s squad and the Arsenal team that missed out on Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League qualification last year.
Speaking from the side of the pitch at the Etihad ahead of Arsenal’s crunch clash with league chasers Manchester City, Keown explained that Arteta is building a winning reputation.
“Reputation, think back to 1997/98, everyone looked at us differently next season, then it was much easier to win games,” Keown told BT Sport.

“Arsenal are rebuilding their reputation, if it doesn’t work out for them it’s not a collapse or they bottled it up, I don’t believe in that.
“This team will undoubtedly win something,” he added.
