A married Washington nurse is accused of forcing abortion pills into his pregnant girlfriend, who he was allegedly caring for when he met her as a patient.
David Benjamin Coots, 49, is charged with assault, rape and witness tampering after he allegedly forced the pills into the woman after she told him she might be pregnant.
The nurse worked at MultiCare Gig Harbor Medical Park in Gig Harbor, Washington, but his staff page was deleted after his arrest on March 11.
Coots’ wife Melissa is also charged with witness tampering after she and Coots allegedly showed up at the woman’s home and offered her money in exchange for not seeking charges and medical treatment because “they didn’t want their lives ruined be,” the charging documents say.

Coots is said to have met the woman, who has not yet been identified, sometime a year ago when he was her primary care provider at a time when she said she was vulnerable.
Charging documents allege he then manipulated ways to continue seeing the patient until he got her phone number and asked her out.
They then began a romantic relationship and she became pregnant after the two had been seeing each other for about a year. Coots is married with five children, but the patient claimed he told her he was getting a divorce.
When confronted with the news that she was pregnant, prosecutors say Coots pretended to be supportive, at one point asking her “what kind of stroller they should buy.”
“He was extremely supportive and excited about our future. “I am shocked and disturbed by the planning and deceit that underlay his attack on me and our unborn child,” the woman wrote in a statement to the court.
Since the woman intended to keep the baby, he allegedly made a plan to force a miscarriage by slipping abortion pills into her vagina while they were having sex.
On Jan. 27, the woman said she and Coots had consensual sex, but during the intercourse he is accused of inserting his finger further and harder into her than normal, police said. Newsstand.
He then acted strangely afterward and ordered the woman to stay home that night, according to reported charging documents.
Later that day, she said she saw a pill fall out of her vagina, and soon discovered three more pills and some foil inside her.
Coots (seen in court this week) allegedly pretended to support the pregnancy before carrying out his accused plot
After texting Coots about the discovery, he reportedly admitted that it was the miscarriage pills Misoprostol/Cytotec, adding that he had prescribed the pills to himself.
Coots is accused of trying to convince the woman not to seek medical treatment, but she did so that day and was given a rape kit.
Hospital staff then found more drugs in her, and she told investigators that she suffered from abnormal bleeding and stomach pain for several days afterward.
A pregnancy test later came back negative and doctors reportedly told her the bleeding was a possible miscarriage.
Court documents also allege a strange encounter the day before the incident, when Coots made her coffee but made numerous comments about her not drinking it.
Then he made a ‘big deal’ of it when she spilled the coffee. After the alleged pill-force incident, she asked him if he had spiked the coffee, to which Coots reportedly just laughed and asked her if it tasted funny.
Coots allegedly sent her $2,000 after the incident, which she returned. On January 31, four days later, he is accused of visiting her home and asking how much money it would cost her not to report him to the police.
In response, she said she wanted to hold him accountable for his actions.
A day later, Melissa Coots – who has not been arrested – allegedly texted the woman saying she wanted to talk and asked for her hospital report.
Melissa then allegedly asked how much it would cost her not to go to the police, telling her that she had been to her home several times before, which caused fear in the woman as she did not know that Coots’ wife knew where she lived.
This led her to let her daughter, 7, stay in a hotel temporarily.
Detectives reportedly found a cut key and a receipt dated March 10 for a lock in the woman’s home, prosecutors alleged.
Coots has been released on $500,000 bail despite the woman pleading with the court to keep him in custody because she feared he would find her
Coots was reportedly released on $500,000 bail, despite the woman begging the court to keep him in custody because she feared he would find her, and he reportedly sent her a recent letter saying he wanted trying to have another baby.
“I’m just so scared of how more desperate he has become to get me to agree to meet him in person, and I’m afraid he will do anything he can to make that happen,” she said in a statement to the court.
‘When he brought gifts for me and my daughter, she got so scared she cried and thought he was going to come out of the boxes and get us.’
This week, a Pierce County judge denied a request by prosecutors to increase bail, and he was acquitted of the charges. Coots has pleaded not guilty.
