A Sydney father says he wants answers after his son allegedly tried to kill his mother and brother without warning.
Emergency services were called to a house on Sydenham Rd in Marrickville, in Sydney’s west, just before 6pm on Thursday after reports of a stabbing near Marrickville High School.
Paramedics discovered a 25-year-old man with stab wounds to his face, neck, head and back, and a 55-year-old woman with a stab wound to her throat.
Jackyy Dang, 22, was arrested at the scene and taken to Newtown Police Station.
Jackyy Dang’s father said he has no idea why his son would have carried out the attack
“I don’t know what happened to my family,” Dang told Nine News on Friday.
He explained that he came home at 5:30 p.m. and took a shower while his wife and two sons sat in the dining room.
“I can’t hear what happened outside… When I came out, everything was a mess.”
When he realized what had happened, he ran outside and called triple zero.
Police said the attack was planned, but there was no warning, the family was not known to police and there is no history of mental illness.
‘I want to know the answers; for my son and for my wife,” Mr Dang said.
Paramedics were called to Sydenham Road in Marrickville just before 6pm where they found the two injured near Marrickville High School.
Both were rushed to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, with the woman in a stable condition and the man fighting for his life but now stable.
Police have cordoned off a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances leading to the incident.
Detective Inspector Ben Kennis said a man arrested over the incident was the brother of the 25-year-old and the son of the 55-year-old woman.
“We will allege that (the suspect) had been planning this for some time,” Inspector Kennis told the media on Friday.
“It was quite a confrontational scene on Sydenham Rd in Marrickville.
“This is a very serious incident related to domestic violence.
“We are taking this very, very seriously and a brief will be prepared for the court.”
Detectives said the family, who live on a quiet suburban street, were not known to police
Inspector Kennis said police were investigating whether the man’s father, who was reportedly in the house at the time of the attack, was another intended target.
“The father was not in the room at the time and managed to run out the front of the property and speak to a witness, who alerted emergency services,” he said.
The 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Newtown Police Station.
He has been charged with two counts of wounding/grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder.
The man applied for bail at Newtown Local Court on Friday, and his case will return to court on July 18.
