Maroochydore, Queensland: Horror accident leaves scooter-riding girl, 12, battling for life after being hit by a car coming out of a driveway

A young girl fights for her life after being hit by a car pulling out of a suburban driveway in a horrific accident.

The 12-year-old girl was riding her e-scooter on a footpath on Main Road in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast at around 7.50am on Wednesday.

She was probably trapped under the sedan.

The girl suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

A hospital spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia her condition remains critical.

The 21-year-old woman who was driving the Kia 4 was also examined at the scene by paramedics and is assisting police with their investigation.

The woman is believed to be a local resident and the car had green P-plates. The vehicle has number plates registered to Victoria, the Courier post reported.

Police have established a crime scene and officers are investigating the incident.

Officers have closed Main Road in both directions until the investigation is complete.

The police will only allow residents of the area through if they can prove that they live in the area.

Earlier, bystanders quickly came to the aid of the girl, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Queensland Ambulance Service acting director of clinical operations Tony Hucker said the girl suffered injuries to her chest.

Inspector Michael Langsdorf urged motorists to drive safely and be constantly alert to their surroundings.

“I would like to remind everyone that we must work together on road safety,” said Inspector Langsdorf.

‘This applies regardless of whether you are driving a vehicle, walking on a sidewalk as a pedestrian, or riding a bicycle or scooter.’

The latest incident occurred after a woman was fined $250 after hitting an e-scooter rider in the driveway of her home with her vehicle.

The incident happened in March outside her home in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, near Emu Flat, in southern Western Australia.

The scooter driver fell to the ground and injured her pelvis. The 26-year-old woman was driving and immediately rushed to help.

The woman pleaded guilty in Kalgoorlie District Court on Monday to failing to provide her name and address after the incident.
