Marko Arnautovic’s agent has claimed the Austrian striker was the one who turned down a move to Manchester United this summer, rather than the club ending any deal.

United saw Arnautovic as a cheap option to bolster their attack. It was previously reported that they decided not to comply with Bologna’s demands amid fan turmoil and after an initial bid of £7.5million was rejected.

However, former Stoke City and West Ham United agent Tiziano Pasquali has denied these claims, insisting instead that United continue talks beyond speculation about ending their interest.

Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic turned down Manchester United this summer, it is alleged

His agent has denied allegations that United pulled out of the deal after some negative comments

“Yes, Juventus and Manchester United had come forward,” Pasquali . said Gianluca di Marzio when asked about the transfer rumours.

“We had received a written proposal from the English, and negotiations had continued, even after some conflicting opinions from their fans.

“But in the end it was Marko who chose not to stretch it too long and stay with Bologna. How can you think he’s in bad shape now?’

United saw Arnautovic as a good option to strengthen their attacking options

It was previously reported that the decision to withdraw was influenced by negative reaction from supporters, who were dismayed when United chased a 33-year-old who played in China after he left the Premier League three years ago.

Arnautovic has also faced disciplinary problems, including a one-match ban from UEFA at Euro 2020 last summer for targeting an anti-Albanian slur on North Macedonia player Ezgjan Alioski.

The striker, who played 12 years ago at FC Twente under Ten Hag and his United No 2 Steve McClaren, later denied that he was a racist.

Arnautovic has played an important role for Bologna in Serie A so far this campaign, with six goals in the first nine games, making him the joint top goalscorer in the league along with Lazio forward Ciro Immobile.
