Mark Zuckerberg is building one of the biggest homes in US history: $270M Hawaiian compound will include its own VILLAGE and huge underground bunker

Mark Zuckerberg will pour $270 million into his top-secret Hawaii complex, which includes several mansions, an entire village and a 5,000-square-foot underground bunker.

WIRED has obtained public records and court documents that reveal all the extravagant amenities Zuckerberg plans to include in his Koolau Ranch property, located on the northeast coast of Hawaii's oldest island, Kauai.

The billionaire Facebook founder, 39, bought 110 hectares of a former sugar plantation on the island in 2021 – adding the couple a luxury 1,300-hectare estate worth $100 million.

His $270 million project will be one of the largest personal constructions of all time.

Two townhouses in the self-sufficient complex will extend over no less than 57,000 square meters.

The businessman's estate will include several mansions, an entire village and a 5,000 square meter underground bunker.

The lavish homes will include 30 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, meeting rooms, an industrial kitchen and multiple elevators, the documents show.

An extensive underground tunnel system will connect the mansions – the path, which will also serve as a shelter, extends over 5,000 square meters and features a living area, a library and an escape hatch.

The bunker has soundproof metal and concrete doors to protect against potential threats, including bombs.

Zuckerberg and his lucky guests don't have to worry about leaving the premises for any reason; the self-sufficient estate has food and water sources and all the amenities you can imagine.

There are guest houses, a gym, a sauna, several swimming pools, a hot tub, a cold plunge pool and a tennis court.

A particularly unique feature of Zuckerberg's over-the-top pad is a network of 11 treehouses connected by rope bridges.

The contractor who built the treehouse extravaganza sued Zuckerberg last year for $133,726 in unpaid fees the businessman allegedly owed.

Zuckerberg's massively luxurious Hawaiian real estate project has been steeped in controversy – with people accusing the Facebook founder of 'colonizing Hawaii'.

Organizers of a 2020 Change.org petition accused the billionaire of suing the natives to build a mansion on their land.

The petition stated, “Hawaiians are abused enough as it is. We have to let them have this. Their country is important to them. He's building a mansion, for what? Do you live in Kauai two months out of the year? This is inhumane. It's sick. He must be stopped.'

In 2022, the family of a security guard who worked for Mark Zuckerberg and died of a heart attack after walking up a steep hill filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Meta founder.

Rodney Medeiros, 70, was found with his hand on his chest while working a shift on Zuckerberg's property at the Kualoa Ranch in Kauai, Hawaii.

The guard was rushed to hospital and died later the same day.

He was working at the bottom of a steep hill on Pilaa beach when it started to rain, forcing Medeiros to walk up the hill alone on August 4, 2019.
