Chillingham Castle is a 13th century Grade II listed stronghold in Northumberland, famous not only for a number of battles but also for its history of hauntings.
According to the castle’s website, one of the resident wraiths is the ghost of the white pantry – a frail figure who sometimes appears in the inner pantry of the castle.
There is also a few voices that can be heard in the chapel. It is never possible to follow their words and they seem to stop talking if you make an effort to track them down.
Surprisingly, Mark chose to spend the night in the castle, having previously spoken about his fear of the paranormal.
He shared his fear that ghosts were present in his bedroom with Michelle, telling Woman’s Own, “I’m the man of the house, so if anything happens, she just goes to sleep and I’m the one lying and thinking, ‘Is that the ghost from that movie in this room?”;
Still, Mark pushed himself for his new BBC show, revealing that filming felt like plunging into a lengthy therapy session.
The series follows Mark as he tours Britain with his brother Josh and father Mark Senior, saying it made him reflect on his life and how his busy career affected his loved ones.
On an episode of the show, Mark confessed, “Being away from my family has happened gradually, and it’s become more and more… I’m not proud of it.
‘I can’t say no to work because I’m so afraid of losing everything. I’m really struggling to overcome that fear – that one day it will really all be gone.’

Mark continued, “It spirals, doesn’t it? If I feel like I’m going to lose everything, it makes me work more, see my family less, and make my mind go a little crazy.
“I know I haven’t been myself and who I should have been over the past few years, and that’s what this (holiday) is about.”
He admitted to his father, “I’m proud to be the best son, but Dad, I think that comes from you.”
“I really think that comes from seeing you go through the things you had to go through in life to get back on your feet.
“I think every day I’m so afraid that everything I have will come to an end.”
In the six-episode series, the trio takes time out of their daily routine to reconnect with each other.
They explore the breathtaking British countryside, idyllic beaches and breathtaking mountains, in a journey packed with pulse-pounding activities, emotional revelations and plenty of laugh-out-loud family teases.
The purpose of the trip was for Mark and his family to reconnect after Mark Snr nearly passed away from COVID during the pandemic and also lost his brother, Eddie, to the virus.
