Mark Schlereth roasts Russell Wilson for workout video: ‘He cannot wait to start posting garbage’

Former Broncos Super Bowl champion and current FOX NFL analyst Mark Schlereth has slammed Russell Wilson over his highly-produced workout video posted to social media in recent weeks.

Wilson, who is entering his second year with the team, shared a video earlier this month of him working out of his private facility ahead of a return to Englewood for Broncos training camp.

Schlereth, who lives and works in Denver on 104.3 The Fan, ripped Wilson for the video after his character and playing failed to impress in Mile High last season.

“He’s been out from under Sean Payton’s thumb for three days [and] it’s like it’s like Braveheart; Braveheart when tortured…freedom!!!,” Schlereth said on The Stinkin’ Truth podcast.

“He can’t wait to start posting trash. And you just talk about the tone deafness of this toxic positivity,” he said of Wilson.

“This look at me, look at me, look at me. Look what I’m doing, I’m sliding, I’m doing push-ups in my hand.

“I just think to myself, dude, you played the worst football of your career. Not only was it pathetic, it was embarrassing.’

Wilson had a disastrous season with the 5-12 Broncos, who were expected to battle the cream of the crop upon his arrival. Instead, both he and the franchise were a league-wide laughingstock.

The former Seattle quarterback had the lowest number of touchdowns in his career (17) and threw 11 interceptions.

Wilson had an awful 60.5 completion percentage and had a 4-11 record on the year.

“I was involved in the NFL for 12 years as a player and 22, 23 years as a broadcaster. I had never seen a group of players take the opportunity to attack one of their members and crucify that man in public without mercy.

Schlereth, of course, is referring to Ravens All-Pro kicker Justin Tucker, who mocked Wilson by saying that Lamar Jackson was “leading” [the team] on high knees” after Wilson told reporters he made the move in the aisles of the Broncos plane en route to London.

The former Seattle quarterback did so amid four hours of on-the-fly drills and stretches while teammates slept.

“It was like Russell Wilson was a jerk and everyone else was a shark in the water – and they couldn’t wait to go after this guy, they couldn’t wait to make fun of him.

“What does it tell you about where he is, how people feel about him? And then the fact that you post that; the tone deafness you have about your own situation.

“Once you’re away from the watchful eye of the organization that asked you not to. Can’t wait to post something. It’s absolutely baffling to me that this is where you are.’

Wilson underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this off-season, a problem that “bothered him for a few seasons” in hopes he will be more mobile than he will be in 2022.

The 34-year-old may not be able to stay out of the spotlight, but that will become less of an issue if he and Payton manage to lift the struggling franchise.
