The great rugby union Mark Ella has stated that ‘anyone with half a brain knows’ that the Wallabies will not beat the All Blacks in the Bledisloe Cup.
Ahead of Thursday night’s first test at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, the former electric flight half predicts Australia’s long drought in the trans-Tasman series will continue.
The last time Australia defeated New Zealand in a Bledisloe Cup series was in 2002 when Matt Burke scored a penalty after full time.
A decade later Ella – who was proclaimed an invincible back in 2013, that was his talent – was asked when he thought the Wallabies would topple the All Blacks next time.
He shocked many by boldly saying ’10 more years’ – and unfortunately for Australian rugby fans, those words have proved prophetic.

Ella also doesn’t see Dave Rennie’s side beating their fierce rivals in the coming weeks.
“I don’t see anything changing,” Ella told the… Sydney Morning Herald.
“I never thought it would take twenty years. I thought we would have been smart enough to work it out now. Obviously we can’t for some reason.
“Anyone with half a brain in rugby knows we’re not going to beat them.”
Since 2003 – the first year Australia handed the famous Cup back to New Zealand – the Wallabies have won just nine games from 54 Tests.
Burke, now a TV pundit, said it hurts to see the All Blacks win the cup year after year.

Williams also said George Gregan’s infamous joke of ‘four more years boys’ when the Wallabies stunned the All Blacks in the 2003 World Cup semi-finals was constantly mentioned in New Zealand camps – even years later.
It left champion All Blacks teams always desperate to win – and relentlessly extending their dominance in the Bledisloe Cup.
But despite the discouraging history, the Wallabies remain optimistic.
New Zealand also appears to be vulnerable, having lost six of its previous eight tests.
Seeing nothing but more pain for the Wallabies, the man they call SBW points out that they need to win two Tests in the series, and “winning all your games in a year against the All Blacks is very rare.”
