Marjorie Taylor Greene rips Lauren Boebert and MAGA allies’ ‘reckless’ opposition to Kevin McCarthy

Conservative Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been attacking her fellow Republicans who are threatening to derail House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s bid for House Speaker.
Georgia Republican Party Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene issued a stark warning to her far-right lawmakers colleagues Tuesday about their “reckless and dangerous” opposition to House GOP Leader McCarthy’s candidacy for The presidency.
It follows a withering attack on Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado. Boebert and Greene, both elected in a pro-Donald Trump wave in 2020, are equally known for making outlandish statements and promoting the MAGA wing of the Republican Party.
But early reports of a burgeoning rivalry led to Greene calling Boebert “childish” in a direct attack on Twitter on Monday.
Greene, for the most part, has stood alone in the conservative House Freedom Caucus with her vocal support for McCarthy.
At least five House Republicans are threatening to derail their search for the Speaker’s gavel. The Republican Party will have a 222-seat majority next year, meaning McCarthy can only afford to lose four votes to reach the 218 votes he needs to win.
One of them, Rep. Matt Gaetz, recently told conservative activist Charlie Kirk regarding McCarthy’s speaking ability, that he is a “fan” of Greene but “it’s not something we see the same thing about.”
Boebert, another Freedom Caucus member who was interviewed along with Gaetz, mocked Greene for previously amplifying conspiracy theories about “Jewish space lasers” and called for an “internal conversation” before deciding on the new majority leader.
I have supported and donated to Lauren Boebert. President Trump has supported and donated to Lauren Boebert. Kevin McCarthy has supported and donated to Lauren Boebert. She barely got 500 votes,” Greene wrote on Twitter Monday night, citing Boebert’s record-breaking re-election run in November.
“Lauren refuses to endorse President Trump, refuses to endorse Kevin McCarthy, and childishly threw me under the bus for a cheap sound bite.”
McCarthy’s slim Republican majority next year means he can’t afford to lose even five votes for the top spot in the House of Representatives.
Greene called out “friends” like Rep. Matt Gaetz for opposing McCarthy, while attacking Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert more directly.
She fired off one last tweet accusing Boebert of encouraging “high school drama.”
Greene hasn’t shy away from disagreeing with her allies on McCarthy’s position, either, but a lengthy 25-tweet statement posted Tuesday was her most direct rebuke yet.
That includes both Gaetz and Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs, whom Greene has publicly called a “friend.” Biggs has publicly announced his intention to challenge McCarthy for the speakership, despite losing to him in a similar vote earlier this year.
Greene accused them of ‘lying to the base’ about a ‘plan’ as an alternative to the Republican leader and said the Republicans are ‘screwing everything’ by being ‘the party of Never’.
“I’m disappointed my friends are cheating the base and that’s a big reason I’m speaking out,” Greene wrote.
“The Speaker is elected from within our conference which, unfortunately for us conservatives, is filled with too many moderates and it is IMPOSSIBLE for a conservative to get 218 votes.”
Boebert and Greene were long thought to be cut from the same MAGA cloth, but within the House Republican Caucus, their alleged differences have given rise to disputes.
He continued: “My friends know this and risking the sledgehammer and delaying everything just because they don’t like someone is not only selfish, it’s incredibly reckless and dangerous.”
Greene likened their resistance to “never Trumpers,” apparently in reference to Republicans who rejected and opposed former President Donald Trump.
“Never Trumper’s bad attitudes produced the Republican refusal to work together and achieve the MAGA agenda that Americans rallied and voted for in record numbers,” the representative wrote.
‘We now have a new growing Never movement, the Never Kevin movement. Like Never Trump, Never Kevins are Never Kevins because they just don’t like him. It’s not about his political goals, his public promises as a Speaker, or any credible reason at all. It’s just Never.
political reported in April that Boebert and Greene had clashed over the latter’s attendance at a rally organized by a well-known white nationalist.
Apparently, the confrontation had to be defused by a fellow Republican lawmaker.
