Mariah Carey ‘had no contact’ with estranged sister Alison before shock death on same day as mother Patricia’s passing

Mariah Carey had ‘no contact’ with her older sister Alison Carey before she died, much to her dismay, on the same day their mother Patricia passed away.

The 55-year-old Fantasy singer released a heartbreaking statement Monday announcing the deaths of her 63-year-old brother and 87-year-old mother, saying her “heart is broken.”

Sources said TMZ on Tuesday that the Grammy winner had not contacted Alison prior to her passing, and was instead with her mother in the week leading up to her death.

The estrangement between the sisters was caused by Alison’s years-long battle with drug addiction, insiders told the newspaper.

After many attempts to help her sibling, Mariah decided to cut Alison out of her life. She didn’t want to ‘enable’ Alison any longer and create distance between the two.

On Monday, Mariah said in a statement to People“I am heartbroken that I lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away.”

Finally, the artist added, “I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

The cause of death of her sister and mother has not yet been released. However, Alison’s close friend, Dave Barker, said The American Sun that Alison ‘received home care for the last three weeks of her life.’

She had problems with her ‘internal organs’ and Barker added: ‘I have known her for nine years and as her friend and in recent months also as her carer I will miss her terribly…’

Carey had a strained relationship with her mother, Patricia, and with her sister Alison, from whom she later became estranged.

The star also has a brother, Morgan Carey, 64, and their father, Alfred, an opera singer, died in 2002 at the age of 72. Mariah’s parents separated when she was three years old.

Mariah revealed in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, that after extensive therapy, she decided to cut off contact with both Alison and Morgan.

“In order to maintain my sanity and peace of mind, my therapist encouraged me to literally rename and reframe my family… Morgan, my ex-brother, and Alison, my ex-sister…”

“I had to stop expecting that one day they would miraculously become the… big brother and big sister I fantasized about,” she wrote.

Mariah added: “I had to stop making myself available to be hurt by them. It’s been helpful. I have no doubt that it’s emotionally and physically safer for me to not have contact with my ex-brother and ex-sister.”

In the book, Mariah claimed that Alison tried to get her to do drugs and gave her “a heart attack.” [her] with third-degree burns when she was a pre-teen, which affected her further development.

“When I was 12, my sister gave me Valium, gave me a pinky nail full of cocaine … and tried to sell me to a pimp,” Mariah said. “Something inside me was arrested by all that trauma. That’s why I often say, ‘I’m forever 12.’ I still struggle with that time.”

In a September 2020 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Mariah described Alison as “troubled and traumatized” by their upbringing.

The Someday singer recalled: “We don’t even really know each other, and that’s the thing. We didn’t grow up together, but we were together. They were on a journey, by the time I came into the world, they were already damaged, in my opinion.

“But again, I wasn’t there. I was dropped into this world and I literally felt like an outsider among my own family.”

According to a 2015 report New York Post Alison was a mother of four, first pregnant at age 15, and had another child in 1988. She had two more children in 2002, the newspaper reported.

Following the book’s release in September 2020, Alison filed a $1.25 million lawsuit against the Grammy-winning artist in 2021.

Alison had been living with HIV since 1990. In 2005, she reported that she had been HIV positive for “at least 15 years.”

She said in her 2021 lawsuit that she was living with a brain injury after a violent home invasion she was the victim of in 2015. She said the incident had damaged her vision and short-term memory.

In a video that circulated last fall, Alison said she had lost all of her teeth and could no longer afford restorative treatments.

A source told the Post in June 2005 that Alison had been to rehab “at least 10 times, many of them financed by Mariah.”

While “Mariah is not one to give up on people,” “she had to learn that you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped,” an insider said in the report.

A source told the newspaper that “Mariah especially wanted reconciliation” with her older sister in 2002, after the death of their father.

“She felt it was important to try to make something good come out of a terrible situation,” an insider told the newspaper.

After her father’s death, Alison inherited $1 million, but she didn’t manage it financially wisely.

Alison returned to prostitution “around the time the money ran out,” a source told the newspaper.

In March 2016, Alison filmed a video published by Dailymail.com, asking her famous brother for financial help following the 2015 attack that left her injured.

She said, ‘Mariah, I love you. I need your help so much. Please don’t leave me like this.’
