The description for Unbounded says that it is part memoir, part inspirational book, exploring themes of “poignant exploration and self-love as one breaks free from society’s expectations.”

The blurb continues: ‘As the queer daughter of immigrants, Maria knows what it’s like to struggle with belonging. Having disparate and confusing identities, none of which fit traditional ideas of worth, power, or success.

‘In Unbounded, she shares stories of what she has lived through and learned from experiencing racism, sexism, financial hardship, intergenerational trauma, homophobia, and mental health challenges.

“Through it all, Maria clung to the hope and belief that her experiences could be turned into power, which she demonstrated when she became the third woman of color to represent Australia at the Miss Universe competition in 2021, and created a media platform that fiercely advocated for empowerment, inclusion and equality.’
