Former Miss Universe Australia Maria Thattil confirmed her split from girlfriend Jorgia O’Hare in June after an “amazing” year together.

And the Melbourne beauty, 30, says she doesn’t regret taking her love life public despite things not working out.

Speak against Confidential On Thursday, Maria explained: “She was the first time in four years that I fell in love and suddenly I had a public platform. I knew it was only a matter of time before people connected the dots.

“I have never publicly shared who I dated before this year. I am generally a very private person.

“When I became Miss Universe, I deliberately asked people I dated to keep it private because I didn’t want to be talked about as anyone’s girlfriend.”

“After a wonderful year together, Jorgia and I want to share that we are no longer together,” she shared in a statement on her Instagram.

“Her love healed me so much and was a light I missed for a long time. Although we are no longer together, we have nothing but respect for each other and continue to support each other.

“Our breakup has been loving, safe, intimate, safe and respectful.

“We’ll both be fine, but please respect our privacy – thanks for the lovely support.”

Not long after Maria posted this to her 200,000+ followers, Jorgia also shared it on her own page and added her own commentary.

She wrote, “I am privileged to be loved by her. I will always be in this woman’s corner… nothing but love and respect for our connection.

Rumors began circulating two weeks ago that the pair had split, as Melbourne-based Maria traveled solo to Australian Fashion Week in Sydney.

In conversation with De Announce sun Maria was cryptic at the time when asked about the couple’s relationship.

“Jorgia, she’s doing incredible things in Melbourne right now and we love and support each other so much,” Thattil said during questioning.

The couple appeared together on the cover of Stellar magazine in January after meeting online several months earlier.

The pair sparked rumors that they were dating after fans saw them exchanging flirty messages online.

Maria, a model and 9Honey columnist, has made eloquent comments on several of Jorgia’s posts with “Dream girl” and “wowweeeeeee.”
