Angelina Jolie was seen in the first trailer for her film Maria. The 49-year-old star plays the famous opera singer Maria Callas.
The clip opens with Maria in her old age walking onto a stage with a man behind a piano. Jolie’s Maria looks out at the empty seats as she reminisces about her earlier years.
There is a quick montage of her looking younger and more beautiful. She is also seen on a yacht with Aristotle Onassis, her former lover. Then she is seen in Paris, crying, having a meltdown in a courtyard, and working on her voice.
However, she is not heard singing.
The film, according to a synopsis, “follows the American-Greek soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye. ‘Maria’ reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days, as the diva struggles with her identity and life.”
She died in Paris in 1977 of a heart attack at the age of 53.
The highly anticipated film will hit theaters in November and be available on Netflix in December.

When Callas met Aristotle Onassis, it marked the beginning of a long romance that became the worst-kept secret in show business, as both parties were already married
It’s a huge undertaking for the star.
At a press conference for the film at the Venice Film Festival, she said: ‘I was incredibly nervous; I trained for almost seven months.
‘The first time I sang, I remember being so nervous. My sons were there and they helped block the door [so] that no one else came in and I was shaking.
‘And [director Pablo Larraín]in his decency, started me in a small room and ended me in La Scala. So he gave me time to grow. I was afraid to meet [Callas].
Angelina joked that after making the film, she might even start doing karaoke nights in the future.
When asked if she had a favorite karaoke song, she replied, “I never sang before [movie] I’ve never done karaoke before, but maybe I will some now!’
Jolie revealed earlier this month that she used to love singing but quit after an ex criticized her voice. She did not name the abusive ex.
Here Jolie is seen bursting into tears, just like Maria in the teaser shared on Thursday
The actress, who was previously married to Johnny Lee Miller, Billy Bob Thornton and Brad Pitt, admitted that her role as opera singer Maria in Maria was challenging because she had to overcome her fears about singing in public.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘It was an out-of-body experience because I don’t sing. I had someone in my life who wasn’t nice to me about singing. It was a relationship that I was in. And so I just assumed that I couldn’t really sing.
“I had done drama school, so it was weird that it affected me at all. I just conformed to that person’s opinion. So it took a lot of effort for me to start singing.”
She told IndieWire last week that she was not very familiar with opera music before she started photographing Maria.
The Oscar-winning actress confessed: ‘I grew up in America. In other countries, they understand how essential and important it is, and it’s much more a part of the culture, but not where I grew up. [Los Angeles].
I was introduced to [Maria] but it was a complete discovery of this new art form, which changed my life and taught me all the different operas.
‘I hope that most people, no matter how they relate to the film, will make a discovery and let themselves feel it and try to sing it. If I can do it…’
Angelina recently revealed that she spent “months” preparing to sing in Maria.
The actress said at the Telluride Film Festival, “I had seven months of opera lessons, wonderful teachers and Italian lessons, and a supportive team that would help me.

‘When I was younger, there were certain pieces of music and certain sounds that resonated with what I was feeling: I was falling in love, or I was curious about something, or whatever I was going through.
“There’s nothing that speaks to your feelings better than opera,” the film star added.
‘[Some pieces] are so beautiful, so full of hope and so full of longing.
“Opera is bigger. It is bigger than we allow ourselves to feel in any moment.”
Angelina, who has children with Brad Maddox (23), Pax (20), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18) and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, recently thanked her sons for helping to reassure her about singing in the film.
