Maren Morris shared the terrifying response she received after speaking out against Morgan Wallen’s use of a racial slur in a video obtained by TMZ in 2021.

The 34-year-old country singer said her four-year-old son Hayes, who she shares with ex-husband Ryan Hurd, received death threats after he verbally abused Wallen, 31, at the time.

During a speech about Sophia Bush Work in progress podcast, the singer described the situation as “scary.”

It wasn’t [just] death threats against me; it was against my son as well. So it’s like, ‘Oh wow, now we’re getting the kids involved,'” she said in the episode.

In 2021, Maren criticized sexism and racism within the entertainment world.

She stressed that female artists would likely be ‘dropped, sponsors would lose their approval, [and become] “social pariahs to music feud” if they were in Morgan’s position.

We keep [white men] “rich and protected at all costs, without any remorse,” she wrote on Twitter.

The star explained: ‘It’s really representative of [Nashville] “Because this isn’t his first ‘fight’ and he already broke a huge streaming record last month,” she said of Wallen.

“We all know it wasn’t the first time he used that word,” she added.

Despite the negative reactions to her comments, the Background Music hitmaker said she would do it again.

In the new podcast episode, she confirmed, “I feel exactly the same as I did that day.”

However, she did note what she would do differently: “Would I possibly use Twitter channels again? Probably not. There are probably more dignified ways to get my point across, but hey, it is what it is.”

She continued, “Don’t be racist. Don’t be transphobic. Don’t be homophobic. I still stand by that, so if you expect me to feel bad, no, I don’t. [don’t].

“The only thing that really made me feel bad was realizing that even in this music community here in Nashville — and I still live here — it’s like, ‘Oh wow, who’s going to stand up for you people of color, [but] Who will step into the breach for them?”

Elsewhere in her conversation with the One Tree Hill alum, Morris discussed her decision to come out as bisexual in June.

“It was something I always knew about myself,” she revealed.

“Since I was eight years old, I sometimes find it very difficult to describe my sexual attraction or just my love for women,” she told the actress.

She was inspired to share a tidbit about herself in preparation for her musical collaboration with MUNA, a queer song called Push Me Over.

“I hate the confusion and I wanted to celebrate that,” she explained of how people would react to the new music if they hadn’t known her perspective.

“I just wanted to get it all out there. I think those are things that have to be forward-looking for me,” she asserted. “Do whatever you want, but for me it was like, ‘My life is so open now, I’m not hiding any part of myself.'”

Explaining the casual approach she took, she said, “I also liked not having to write a stupid press release or anything. I was like, ‘I’ll just put it in an Instagram caption, like a tour photo.’

“I liked keeping it light because for me it’s not something I need to write a whole story or article about.”
