Maren Morris bonds with son Hayes, four, on family day at zoo… days after she surprised fans by coming out as bisexual in wake of divorce

Maren Morris shocked and delighted many of her fans when she came out as bisexual on Sunday.

But after her announcement — which followed years of LGBTQ advocacy — she retreated to the comfort of her family for a sweet trip to the zoo with her four-year-old son Hayes.

The 34-year-old singer, who shares her son with ex-husband Ryan Hurd, posted photos and an adorable video of her and Hayes getting to feed some majestic giraffes from the safety of a fenced area.

She posted a video of herself nervously feeding one of the long-necked creatures a lettuce heart as her son joined in next to her.

Maren was dressed in a loose-fitting green ribbed sweater and matching pants for the trip to the zoo, along with chunky black sandals.

Hayes stood by her side in a white graphic T-shirt, green striped shorts and a brown, white and black trucker cap.

In one photo, she was seen crouched on the ground so that she was as tall as her son, but the giraffes could still reach the lettuce in her hand thanks to their long necks.

She followed it up with a fun video of her nervously feeding some of the lettuce to one of the giraffes, which was featured on the soundtrack of the Circle Of Life theme from The Lion King.

The country singer flinched as the giraffe’s dark tongue shot out of its mouth to grab the lettuce, but after the initial shock she turned around to grab more lettuce.

Another photo showed Maren picking up Hayes so he could get up close to the beautiful giraffe.

Maren shares Hayes with her ex-husband Ryan Hurd, who she announced she was divorcing in October 2023.

The former lovebirds met in 2013 when they both worked as co-writers on Tim McGraw’s song Last Turn Home.

She finalized her divorce four months ago, and under the agreement she must pay Hurd $2,100 a month in child support.

Last year, Morris proudly performed at the Love Rising benefit event in Nashville, which protested Tennessee legislation targeting drag performers, trans youth and gay marriage.

The Texas-born millennial even brought her four-year-old son Hayes Andrew Hurd to the “totally family friendly” drag show where she declared on stage at the Bridgestone Arena, “Yes, I introduced my son to some drag queens today, so Tennessee, arrest me damn.’

“Okay, this ‘save the kids’ plea always seems to distract from what we’re actually talking about,” Maren said after the backlash a month later.

“If you make the ‘exposure to children’ argument, in Catholicism there are a lot of gowns, makeup and powdered wigs in the theater that were historically only worn by men, Mrs. Doubtfire charming our childhoods… the list goes on endlessly.

‘Drag is an age-old performance art and some drags are only for adults. The performance I referred to in this interview was an all-ages charity show to protest Tennessee’s illegal drag ban that was rightly overturned.”

Morris’ announcement came four months after hers her divorce finalized from country crooner Ryan Hurd, to whom she pays $2,100 in child support every month.

The Tree singer and the 37-year-old Grammy nominee – who had a prenup – split on October 2 after five years of marriage, and they first met in 2013 when they collaborated on Tim McGraw’s song Last Turn Home 2014 wrote.

Maren – who gets 11.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify – will bring her 40-date tour to Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO next Tuesday.

Although Maren came out as bisexual this weekend, she has been an advocate for the LGBTQ community in recent years.

Last year, during an appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race as a guest judge, she apologized to the contestants for the way country music had treated LGBTQ people in the past.

In 2022, Maren publicly feuded with fellow country singer Jason Aldean’s wife Brittany after she made comments that many deemed transphobic.

After right-wing pundit Tucker Carlson called the hitmaker a “crazy” and a “fake country singer,” she started selling T-shirts ridiculing Carlson and the insults.
