A man has been shot dead by police after allegedly charging at officers with a knife.
Police were called to a home on Love Street in Mareeba, in the far north of Queensland, at about 11:30am on Saturday.
They had received reports that a man had threatened to harm himself.
According to police, negotiators spoke to the man who allegedly had a woman with him and refused to let her leave.
The man is said to have been armed with a knife at specialized agents.

Immediate first aid and CPR were administered, but the man died at the scene.
There were tense scenes in the streets as angry crowds gathered to question police about the shooting.
A crime scene was declared as police investigated the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the incident will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the state coroner.
The investigation will be overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
