Marcus Rashford could equal a strange record if he comes off the bench in England’s upcoming friendlies.

Gareth Southgate’s side will continue their preparations for this summer’s European Championship when Brazil visit Wembley on Saturday evening.

The Three Lions will take on Belgium at home on Tuesday in an all-European match.

Rashford will equal the record currently held by former striker Jermain Defoe if he comes off the bench in both matches.

The Manchester United forward will make the most substitute appearances for England alongside Defoe.

He came off the bench 33 times for his country, compared to Defoe’s 35 substitutes in 57 caps.

Current England midfielder Jordan Henderson is in the top 10 with 26 appearances off the bench in 81 games.

Emile Heskey, Phil Neville, Kieron Dyer, Owen Hargreaves, Joe Cole, James Milner and Peter Crouch make the rest of the list.

Rashford has become a key player in the England team since making his debut as a teenager in 2016.

The 26-year-old has scored seventeen times in that period, including twice at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
