Marcus Rashford ‘was NEVER a good player’ insists former Man United star claims striker has been ‘erratic’ since Red Devils ‘rushed to give him big money’

Former Manchester United player Paul Parker has claimed that Marcus Rashford was never a good footballer.

Rashford, thanks to the best goal-scoring season of his career last season, has scored just once in 16 games so far this season.

The 26-year-old has not scored in his last ten games and was criticized by Erik ten Hag last week for celebrating his birthday after the 3-0 defeat to rival Manchester City.

Parker, who made 105 appearances for the Red Devils between 1991 and 1996, has found renewed success with Rashford after previously describing him as ‘selfish and petulant’.

According to the Emphatic, he said: ‘Marcus Rashford brings nothing to the team and I said the same thing last year when he scored all these goals between November and April. He was never a good player, he was a goalscorer.

Parker said United are ‘not being rewarded’ for what they have invested in Rashford – after the England forward agreed to a new five-year £300,000-a-week deal in the summer.

“People called me a traitor, they called me bitter, but this is not about bitterness. After that period, when all these goals were scored, people went crazy telling the club to give him a new contract and tie him to the club.’

Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions last season and was rewarded with a new five-year contract in the summer.

He signed a five-year contract worth £300,000 per week, which would keep him at the club until 2028.

Parker said United are ‘not being rewarded’ for what they have invested in him.

He said: ‘Man United rushed to give him a lot of money and now they are not being rewarded for what they invested in him. In any industry you should be rewarded for consistency, but he was rewarded after a few months and it’s been nothing but erratic since then.”

Parker’s comments come after Rashford approached fan channel The United Stand to ‘stop spreading malicious rumours’ in response to a video asking if his future at Old Trafford was in doubt.

Well-known fan channel The United Stand then published a video on Monday with the title: ‘Rashford’s future in doubt?’

Faz from the United Stand in the video said: ‘He has traveled with the team but has not been used (against Fulham). To travel all the way to Fulham with the team and not be used there is very interesting and I don’t believe in that.’

He added: ‘I think it might have been a form of punishment from Erik ten Hag. At the moment everyone can agree that Marcus Rashford’s body language when he goes to matches, he doesn’t look like he’s happy.

‘I don’t know if he really wants to be here. Where his commitment lies. Does he really want to play for Manchester United?

‘The numbers he put up last season, it’s a big change. How can you get from a 40+ G/A (goal player and assists player) to the level he is at now.’

Rashford was left out of the squad against Fulham due to injury but was all smiles as he returned to training on Tuesday after his difficult week.

However, it is uncertain whether he will play a role in United’s important Champions League match in Copenhagen on Wednesday evening.
