Relationship: Marcus is reportedly set to marry his childhood sweetheart Lucia Loi after proposing last year

Marcus and Lucia enjoyed their trip to the Big Apple last month after Marcus was ruled out of England’s games due to injury.

The footballer made sure to document his much-needed journey by sharing a few snaps with his fellow followers.

In one particular photo, the happy couple was seen posing in front of a fountain in the famous Central Park.

Marcus and Lucia met at school in Greater Manchester when they were just 15.

And the soon-to-be newlyweds revealed that they got engaged last May.

Lucia has been seen supporting Marcus at football matches over the years, including at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and has been seen in the stands at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

However, some fans have recently criticized the timing of the pair’s trip as the three Lions played Euro 2019 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.

Boss Gareth Southgate, 52, was quick to defend Marcus, saying: “Once Marcus is excluded from the squad, it’s entirely up to him how he spends his time.”

The trip to New York comes after Marcus – the top scorer this season with 28 goals – was injured again and hobbled off the football pitch after a recent game against Everton.

The footballer, who joined United’s youth academy at the age of seven, now reportedly earns £200,000 a week.

And in recent years, during the pandemic, the legend launched a campaign to feed society’s most vulnerable children.
