Marcus Rashford missed training on Friday morning after illness forced him to postpone his flight back to Manchester after enjoying a weekday evening in Belfast.

Footage on social media showed Rashford entering a nightclub in Belfast on Wednesday evening.

Sources close to Rashford say he was out for dinner and had to postpone his flight home after falling ill.

Erik ten Hag revealed during his press conference ahead of their FA Cup fourth round tie against Newport County that the England international’s absence was due to illness.

“It is a strong team and we still have some injuries, such as (Victor) Lindelof and (Tyrell) Malacia,” Ten Hag told club media. ‘This morning Rashford was sick, and Evans was sick.

“So we have to see how they recover, but otherwise we have players returning, like Martinez, like Shaw, like Maguire, like Casemiro, and that’s a good thing.”

Rashford was also seen on Thursday at the training ground of NIFL Premiership side Larne, where his former and former United teammate Roshaun Williams now plays.

On the pitch, the 26-year-old has had a frustrating campaign, scoring just four times in all competitions compared to his tally of 30 goals last season.
