Marcus Rashford is busy preparing for the new season. On Monday, he and a number of his Man United team-mates returned to Carrington for their first training session after the summer break.

Red Devils stars who did not participate in international tournaments were back at United’s training complex on the first day of pre-season training, where they underwent light training.

Rashford was joined by the likes of Andre Onana, Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as attention turned to the season ahead.

Rashford was one of the surprise absentees from Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024 after a disappointing season.

The striker failed to match the level of the previous season, scoring just eight goals, while his off-field behaviour only further damaged his reputation at the club.

The Englishman made headlines after missing training following a night out in Belfast.

The 26-year-old player was left out of the squad for the match that followed, as he received a lot of criticism from fans and in the media.

He had to watch from home as his three Lions team-mates reached the semi-finals in Germany, but he appeared in good spirits when he arrived in Carrington on Monday morning.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was also present at the session prior to his appointment as a staff member of Erik ten Hag.

The club has yet to confirm the appointment of assistant coaches Ruud van Nistelrooy and René Hake and goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar, while the three Dutchmen are waiting for their visas to be granted.

But Van Nistelrooy, Hake and Ten Rouwelaar were all present at Carrington’s training complex on Monday morning as United’s first non-internationals reported for pre-season training.

Former United striker Van Nistelrooy (48) turned down the job at Burnley to return to his old club. He previously led PSV Eindhoven to second place in the Eredivisie and victory in the Dutch Cup.

Van Nistelrooy, who is pictured returning to his hotel later in the day, is returning to the club where he scored 150 goals in five years after impressing during his coaching career, including at PSV.
