Marcus Rashford believes Man United legends are ‘BULLYING him’, with dropped England star feeling criticism is an ‘onslaught’ and ‘beyond unfair’ amid his poor run of form

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford believes criticism from former players of the club in the media amounts to “bullying” and is “beyond unfair”, according to reports.

Rashford is in form and has yet to score this season, having scored just seven Premier League goals last season.

According to the iRashford feels the criticism he receives is different to that of his teammates.

A source told i: ‘If someone else misplaces a pass it doesn’t get mentioned, but if it’s Marcus it’s different.

‘Very different. The criticism that is coming at him is an attack. It is bullying. Supporters believe what experienced ex-players say, which only makes it worse.

‘The club have spent £100m on centre forwards and Marcus is back on the wings, as a facilitator. And he is doing his job in that regard. It is not his fault that chances are not being created.’

Among those who have recently criticised Rashford are former United players Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Teddy Sheringham.

In addition, United fans have regularly criticised Rashford on social media.

During the international break, Rashford has undergone an intensive personal training regime in a bid to show he can regain his best form at United and regain his place in the England squad.

Despite his lack of goals, Rashford is still creating plenty of chances for United, but there is a sense within the player camp that many of the club’s players are struggling to perform under Erik ten Hag.

Rashford has made 60 appearances for England but was not included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024 and was also not included in new interim manager Lee Carsley’s first squad.

Neville criticised Rashford’s performance during United’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool, saying the forward lacked confidence.

Neville said in an interview with Sky Sports: ‘There is no confidence. He had a one-on-one situation with Konate and now he is back in central defence.’

‘The United fans won’t let him get away with that. Whatever happens, you still have to go for it and go one-on-one.

‘He may not be having the best day, but he’s just come back to his senses and that tells you where his mind is at.

‘It’s been going on for 14 months, he scored 30 goals the season before.

“I’d like to think he’s getting his confidence back, but he seems to be struggling. The game doesn’t look nice for him at the moment and that’s sad.”

In April, Keane claimed Rashford needed ‘a good old-fashioned kick up the backside’.

Keane said on the Stick To Football podcast: ‘I wouldn’t say I’m worried about him, but when you look at him, there’s something wrong. The people around him, whether it’s his family, his manager, who’s chasing him every day?’

“Who’s going to give him a good old-fashioned kick in the ass and say, ‘Come on, we need more of you.’ If you want to be this leader and you’ve got the big contracts, there’s that responsibility.”

Sheringham, meanwhile, claimed that it is still not clear what Rashford’s best position is and also suggested that Rashford needs to work hard to get out of his current slump.

Speaking to Ladbrokes’ ‘Gaffa of All Accas’, Sheringham said: “He’s struggling, there’s no doubt about that. He’s got no leaders to help him; he’s struggling and the rest of the players are just saying ‘go for it’. You need players to rally around you. You know, you change your own performances with hard work, with commitment, and you work your way into the game by showing people you really care.
