March Madness spells déjà vu for Indiana as the single-seed women’s team CAE defeats the nine-seeded Miami, 70-68… just 24 hours after the Hoosiers men’s team suffered the same fate against the Hurricanes.
Indiana University basketball has had a 24-hour period to forget, as the men’s and women’s basketball teams were knocked out of March Madness on back-to-back days by the same opponent: the Miami Hurricanes.
On Sunday night, the fourth-seeded men’s Indiana Hoosiers fell to fifth-seeded Miami 85-69 to be eliminated in the round of 32.
On Monday, Indiana’s No. 1 overall seeded women’s team was upset by ninth seed Miami on the IU campus in Bloomington, Indiana by a score of 70-68. All it took was Destiny Harden’s jumper from the paint to roll from the rim with 3.3 seconds remaining for the Canes to clinch the upset.
According ESPN Stats and Information, this marks the 10th time in history that a school has eliminated both teams from another school from the NCAA Tournament. It’s only the third time this has happened in the same round.
In 1994, George Washington’s teams eliminated UAB’s men’s and women’s squads. Duke did the same with the University of the South in 2006.

Harden credited associate head coach Fitzroy Anthony with calling his number.
“Fitzroy, man. He did it again. He told me to face and win the damn game, excuse my language,” Harden said on the broadcast.
She added: ‘I have to give him all my credit. He believed in me, the entire coaching staff believed in me, the entire team believed in me, man. He feels good to make the shot (and) send Miami to the Sweet 16 for the first time, man.
