It was a more exciting match than she might have imagined, but Caitlin Clark won her last match at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and advances to the Sweet 16 after a close win over West Virginia.
In the process, Clark set the NCAA women’s points record in a single season as she now has 1,113 points, passing former Washington Huskies guard Kelsey Plum.
Clark and the Hawkeyes now advance to face the fifth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes in the Sweet 16 in Albany, New York – with a possible rematch with LSU on the line in the Elite Eight.
Although she scored 32 points, she did not do so efficiently, shooting 8-for-22 (36 percent) from the field and 5-for-14 (35 percent) from beyond the arc.
But she hit 11 of 12 free throws to increase her tally – with free throws ultimately helping her pass Plum’s goal.
