Marcel Sabitzer trains with new Man United teammates after sealing deadline day loan move… with Red Devils pictured in Carrington as news broke Mason Greenwood had dropped his attempted rape and assault charges

Marcel Sabitzer was pictured training with his new Manchester United teammates for the first time when news broke that all charges against Mason Greenwood would be dropped.

England international Greenwood, 21, had charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior and assault against him dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service on Thursday. It came just over a year after the striker was arrested.

However, United will now ‘go through their own process before determining the next steps’ as they decide whether Greenwood should play for them again.

Sabitzer, who sealed a deadline loan transfer from Bayern Munich to Man United, and the Red Devils, was pictured for the first time since the police statement as Old Trafford bosses figure out what to do with the 21-year-old.

Over the course of the past 12 months, club sources have told Sportsmail that the worst possible outcome would be for the charges against Greenwood to be dropped or for the case to go to court and be found not guilty.

For now, United are preparing to play Crystal Palace at the weekend, where they hope to record a 13th successive Old Trafford win.

Sabitzer was seen by his new teammates, including Raphael Varane, who announced his retirement from France on Thursday afternoon.

Diogo Dalot, who has faced a spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, has also trained and is hoping to regain the right-back role from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has enjoyed a renaissance.

Sabitzer was recruited by Erik ten Hag when United desperately tried to secure a deal after Christian Eriksen was ruled out for three months with an ankle injury.

After securing a last minute deal with Sabitzer, Ten Hag said: “We are very happy with the transfer because we need it.” Bringing in a quality player on deadline day is tough, but we have this opportunity.”

The experienced midfielder has made 443 club appearances across Europe, including 54 since joining Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig.

Sabitzer hopes to make his Manchester United debut at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
