Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has dyed his hair red to celebrate Spain’s victory over England in the Euro 2024 final.

The former Brighton defender played a key role in La Roja’s European Championship campaign, starting in six of his team’s seven games.

Last weekend he provided the assist to Mikel Oyarzabal for the winning goal in the match between Spain and England 2-1. He was later selected by UEFA to the official Team of the Tournament.

Cucurella’s girlfriend Claudia Rodriguez said in the run-up to the final that her husband would dye his long, curly mane if Spain won the European Championship.

“Marc promised somewhere that he would dye his hair red,” Rodriguez explained. “But he didn’t promise me anything and I’m not going to force him to do it.”

That promise was made during the group stage when Cucurella told a radio program The party: ‘If we win the title, I’ll dye my hair red.’

Cucurella revealed his new haircut via his Instagram account on Friday morning.

The 25-year-old man posted a Spanish saying with six photos that means: ‘A promise is a promise.’

In two of those photos, Cucurella was wearing his shirt from Sunday’s European Championship final. In another photo, he was topless in the shower.

He also made it clear which brand he used to transform his look, tagging Garnier Espana.

His Spanish teammate Nico Williams responded on Instagram with the following comment: ‘Cuidaooooooooo’, which means: ‘Watch out!’

Cucurella spoke with ALS about his iconic long hair earlier this year. He said: ‘When you’re a kid, your mom decides what your haircut should be and mine just thought it was pretty.

‘So I started playing football with it and that went well, people recognized me by my hair, so I let it grow like that.’
