Map reveals average penis sizes around the globe… and America is not a world leader
In a global battle for the bulge, the US doesn’t appear in the top 10 or even the top 60 when it comes to penis size, according to new rankings.
The average erect penis length in the US is about two and a half inches, slightly higher than the global average, according to Data Pandas, an online library of data sets related to health, crime, education, demography and the economy.
Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo took the top spots for penis length, with an average of 7.07 inches and 7.05 inches respectively. Ecuador came third with an average of 6.93 in.
Thailand, North Korea and Cambodia took the bottom three spots with 3.72 inches, 3.78 inches and 3.88 inches respectively.
The measurements were derived from self-reporting, raising the possibility that the men surveyed exaggerated the size of their members.
The global ranking ranked the US at number 68, with an average length when erect of 5.57 inches. Many of America’s peers scored higher: Australia with an average of 6.18 inches, France with 5.71 inches and the UK with 5.63 inches.
However, Canada scores lower than the US, with an average of 5.48 inches.
The countries with the largest reported penis sizes are spread across continents, including South America, Africa, the Caribbean and the Middle East.
Following Ecuador was the Republic of Congo (the smaller country bordering the DRC) and Ghana has an average height of about 6.83 inches and 6.81 inches respectively.
Nigeria rounded out the top five (6.69 inches), followed by Venezuela (6.66 inches), Lebanon (6.62 inches), Colombia (6.59 inches) and Cameroon (6.55 inches).
The countries reporting the smallest sizes tend to be in Southeast or East Asia, where a wide range of cultural and ethnic groups live.
At the other end of the spectrum, Thailand ranked first with an average erect penis length of about 3.71 inches, followed by North Korea at 3.78 inches.
Data Pandas based its ranking on a 2014 report in the magazine BJU International Sexual Medicine.
Researchers conducted a comprehensive review of existing studies from around the world that measured penis size by health professionals in samples of 50 people or more.
By relying on existing research, the report’s authors were able to gather information from studies examining penis size measures in countries they would otherwise not have access to, such as North Korea.
Cambodia’s average height is about 3.88 inches, Nepal’s is about 3.93 inches, Myanmar’s is 3.97 inches, and Laos’s is 10.25 inches.
Vietnam’s average is also about 10 cm, while Sri Lanka’s average is around 10 cm. South Korea averages about 4.26 inches, and the Philippines about 4.28 inches.
The quip ‘size matters’ reflects the attitude of men rather than women.
In addition to length, men tend to be concerned about girth, or the circumference of the penis, and volume, which refers to its overall three-dimensional size.
In Data Panda’s breakdown, the top five spots were taken by European countries, with the exception of Ecuador in third place.
France leads with an average circumference of 5.37 inches, closely followed by the Netherlands with 5.33 inches.
Ecuador takes third place with an average girth of 5.29 inches. Belgium and Denmark share similar dimensions, each with a circumference of 5.22 inches, securing the fourth and fifth positions.
Australia, which ranked 20th in height, had the sixth highest average girth in the world, followed by Norway with 17.5cm and Sudan with 17.5cm.
A 2009 survey found that seventy-nine percent of men wished their penises were bigger, and nearly forty-eight percent of those who wanted a larger size admitted to lying about their actual size.
Romania ranked lowest with an average of 4.04 inches. Bhutan was a close second from the bottom with 4.06 inches, followed by Bangladesh with 4.13 inches and Mongolia with 4.18 inches.
While the lowest rankings for height were dominated by Asian countries, the lower rankings for girth included Asian countries as well as some countries in Eastern Europe.
Some of the countries that top the rankings for length in an erect position score just as well for total volume, taking length and girth into account together.
Ecuador takes the lead with an average volume of 15.43 in³ (cubic inches), followed by Sudan with 14.91 in³ and the Democratic Republic of Congo with 14.83 in³.
Venezuela is in fourth place with an average of 13.96 in³, while the Netherlands is in fourth place with 13.91 in³. Ghana secures sixth place with 13.75 in³, and Colombia rounds out the list with 13.71 in³.
Various measures are used to measure penis size, but length is often considered the most important, probably because length is the most visible and immediately noticeable measurement.
This is evident from a 2002 study among 375 women only 21 percent of them thought penis length was important, and only one percent said it was very important.
A much larger proportion of men are tied to size. A 2009 report showed this 79 percent of men wished their penises were bigger. And about 48 percent of men who wanted a bigger penis lied about their size.

Average penis length may have increased in recent decades. American and Italian researchers reviewed data from 75 different studies on penis size that were published in between 1942 and 2021involving more than 55,000 men.
They reported in February 2023 that erect penis length increased significantly over time: 24 percent in 29 years.
Changes over time can be linked to the trend of boys entering puberty at increasingly younger ages. Puberty causes an increase in hormones, especially testosterone, which directly affects the growth of various body parts, including the sexual organs.
Earlier puberty means the body is exposed to these hormones for longer, potentially leading to a larger penis size in adulthood.
