Man’s wife wants to name their baby boy CHARLES MANSON after her late brother
A man has revealed that his grieving wife wants to name their baby Charles in honor of her suddenly deceased brother. The only problem? Their last name is Manson.
Reddit user ThrowRA_Names12 went to the ‘Am I the A**holesubreddit to share his concern about his child having the same name as Charles Manson, the infamous cult leader and convicted murderer.
In his anonymous post, he explained that his wife, Melissa, 31, had legally adopted his surname when they married four years ago and is eight months pregnant with their son.
“Unfortunately, our last name is Manson. As in Charles Manson,” he wrote. “It really sucks, but it’s what I’ve got. None of us [has] never had any problems with that until now.’

Notorious cult leader Charles Manson spent more than four decades behind bars after he ordered members of his Manson Family cult to go on a murderous two-day rampage in 1969.
He shared that Melissa lost her brother a few weeks ago after he suddenly died of a heart attack at the age of 35.
“We were both shocked and [devastated]. He was a wonderful man who was always healthy, and we were very close to him. Nobody saw it coming. He left behind his wife and three children,” he said. “Melissa now wants to name our son after her brother.”
He noted that he wouldn’t have a problem with the tribute if her brother’s name wasn’t Charles.
Born Charles Milles Maddox, Charles Manson spent more than four decades behind bars after ordering members of his Manson Family cult to embark on a murderous two-day rampage in 1969.
During the spree, his followers killed seven people: pregnant actress Sharon Tate, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, hair stylist Jay Sebring, writer Wojciech Frykowski, teenager Steven Parent, and married couple Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.
The murders were committed in upscale, mostly white Los Angeles neighborhoods to blame the crimes on African Americans, hoping to spark what he called a “Helter Skelter” race war.
Manson was also later convicted of the murders of musician Gary Hinman and stuntman Donald ‘Shorty’ Shea. He died in prison in 2017 at the age of 83.
The Reddit user explained in his post that his reluctance to name his child Charles Manson, given the associations with the murderous cult leader, caused him to fall out with his wife.
“I told her I wasn’t okay with naming our child Charles Manson, and she insisted no one notice or care. She calls me an asshole for disrespecting her brother,” he said.
“So, should I let this go and just name our son after a man who has been so important in Melissa’s life?” he asked. “I really don’t want our kid to have to go through life with the same name as a serial killer. Imagine how hard it would be to find a job.”

The vast majority of commenters advised the man to stand his ground, insisting that people will make the connection and that their child will be “relentlessly bullied.”

“Charles Manson is not a true crime villain, but a well-known name regularly mentioned in pop culture,” another commented. “Use her brother’s name as a middle name [if] anything but to cry aloud, don’t call your child Charles Manson.”
“She’s preparing your child for a life of torture. And yes, people will notice and care. They will also, as parents, judge you for giving that name and question your morals and values,” another added.
A number of people recommended using Charles as the baby’s middle name or a variation of the name, such as Charlemagne, Charleston, or Carl.
Some suggested using her brother’s middle name instead, but the man explained that wouldn’t fly with his wife because it’s the same name as her “abusive father.”
Using Reddit’s chat feature, Fox News digital contacted the user about his message. He claimed his name is Aaron Manson, but he refused to prove his name for privacy reasons.
“Melissa did some more research on Charles Manson, also read my Reddit post and agreed that it would be unkind to subject our unborn son to a life of torture by calling our son Charles,” he wrote in the post .
He said they chose to name their son Cian Summit Manson, which is still a tribute to Melissa’s late brother.
“We chose the name Cian because it resembles Charles enough to honor him enough, but different enough that no one will be suspicious,” he explained.
“His middle name will be Summit, after Summit Lake in Indiana, a place where Charles and I used to camp.”
