Under-fire Manly star Josh Schuster involved in training fight just days after Sea Eagles skipper Daly Cherry-Evans slammed the young gun for being LUIS and out of shape
Male star Josh Schuster allegedly punched a teammate during practice last week, just days after his attitude was publicly questioned by Sea Eagles captain Daly Cherry-Evans.
According to the Daily telegramSchuster traded blows with Dean Matterson in front of stunned teammates at Brookvale Oval on Friday.
Matterson, who plays for the Blacktown Workers – Manly’s feeder team in the NSW Cup – is the younger brother of Parramatta Eels star Ryan Matterson.
Male forward Josh Aloiai had to step in to break up the stoush, which reportedly quickly escalated from light-hearted jokes to something much more serious.
Blows were thrown, but Sea Eagles boss Anthony Seibold described it as a “non-event” to News Corp.
Male star Josh Schuster has reportedly been involved in a brawl on the training ground
The 21-year-old made just one appearance in two games in a row for the Sea Eagles this season
Schuster was omitted from coach Anthony Seibold’s team that lost 26-10 at home to the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday as he attempted to build up his fitness after a thigh injury.
The 21-year-old worked hard on his fitness during the off-season, even refusing to stop training as his teammates enjoyed their downtime after the 2022 season ended.
But Cherry-Evans warned him that he wasn’t doing enough to ensure he gets the most out of his physical and football abilities and that his NRL career was fast approaching a critical juncture.
“I’ve been playing long enough to see so many people at this club not taking their chances,” said the Manly skipper.
‘That’s rugby league, mate – if you’re not willing to work hard enough, if you’re not willing to sacrifice, you just won’t last long.
“He is at a crossroads early in his career, but it can be very positive.
“This doesn’t have to be a negative for him. Spending some time getting his body right could be a defining moment where he rises to that level that we all know he can do.” [reach].
Daly Cherry-Evans last week criticized Schuster for not working hard enough
“I played footy with him and trained with him enough to see so much talent. So I definitely want him to do well.
“This should cheer him up.”
At 6 feet 11 inches (185 cm) and at least 250 pounds (106 kg), Schuster is one of the tallest five-eighths in the league, combining the running and tackling prowess of a backrower with silky-smooth passing and kicking skills.
But he has made just one appearance in two games in a row this season and a recurring problem with his quadriceps is worrying the side.
