Greens candidate shares staggering ‘sex’ reason for why she went into politics

  • She is also an MC and comedian in her spare time

Bizarre footage has emerged of a Green Party candidate telling a comedy audience she is “stupid” enough to enter politics because she “wants to f**k Barnaby Joyce”.

Mandy Nolan, a candidate for the seat of Richmond in the Byron Bay region, was hosting a cabaret show called The Met Gala in Lismore, northern New South Wales, on July 27 when she made the shocking comment.

Ms Nolan told locals, who had each paid $140 for a ticket: ‘I was asked why I would do something as stupid as go into politics.

“And I said, ‘I’m only doing it so I can fuck Barnaby Joyce.'”

Mr Joyce was the Nationals leader in 2017 when he announced he had left his wife of 24 years for his much younger staffer, Vikki Campion.

Mrs Campion was then just two months away from the birth of their eldest son, Sebastian.

He stepped down as party leader but remains on the front bench.

When asked for comment by Daily Mail Australia, Ms Nolan said: “It’s a joke, Joyce” – a dated catchphrase from a 1960s Australian sitcom.

According to the event page, Ms Nolan promised to be ‘the most charming hostess, with her hilarious humour and charm, that anyone could experience’.

Although she has not yet been elected to the Senate, she will stand in the next election, promising her future constituents to ‘take that megaphone to Canberra’.

“A close election could see me retain power and be one of the most powerful voices in Canberra,” her campaign website said.

“Anyway, I’ll be the loudest.”

Ms Nolan came under fire in 2022 when a video emerged of her reading an opinion piece originally published in the Byron Shire Echo in 2011.

She was talking about the frustrations of explaining to her teenage daughter the importance of balancing fun and responsibility, and then she said that Adolf Hitler “had fun.”

“Look at Hitler. He was having fun. He was doing what he wanted to do,” she said in the video.

‘Ask six million Jews what they think about this and he still wouldn’t have enough of it, it’s simply unethical.’

Despite calls to withdraw her support, GroenLinks leader Adam Bandt said at the time that she would make a great MP for Richmond and pointed out that she had apologised.

“Mandy has a strong history of fighting antisemitism and fascism and has apologised for the upset her comments caused,” he said in 2022.

In a 2023 podcast with comedian Wil Anderson, she jokingly thanked legendary Australian cricketer Shane Warne for his fatal heart attack in Thailand, taking the heat off her Hitler comments.

At the last election, Labor won the Richmond seat with 58.2 percent to the Nationals’ 41.8 percent, with the party being favored by two parties.

But Ms Nolan scored highly on first preferences, with 25.3 per cent of the vote compared to 28.8 per cent for Labor’s Justine Elliott, meaning she could pose a real threat to the seat.
