Manipur Minister L Susindro said police would be deployed at petrol stations in the state.

At a press conference, he warned gas station chains of legal action if they refuse to sell fuel despite having stock.

Susindro, the state’s Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food Supply and Public Distribution, said there have been several cases where people left the gas station without paying after filling up.

“Such incidents have led to many gas stations having to close their doors due to financial losses,” he said.

“We will deploy police personnel and Food and Public Distribution Department personnel at petrol stations,” he said, appealing to people not to indulge in extortion.

With several petrol stations in the Imphal Valley closed, there is a serious fuel crisis in the region.

“Legal action will be taken against those gas station owners who refuse to sell fuel despite having it in stock. There is enough fuel in the state,” Susindro said.

He also said that frequent landslides along the national highways are disrupting the transportation of LPG cylinders to the state, creating a shortage.
