Manhunt launched over alleged Redfern attacks on cab driver and a food delivery worker with a kitchen knife

Police are looking for a man for questioning in connection with separate attacks on a taxi driver and a food delivery worker.

Images of a man wanting to speak to police were released on Saturday following the stabbing incidents in Redfern, Sydney on Friday evening.

The photos show a man in his 20s wearing dark shorts, white sneakers with blue details and a dark cap with white lettering.

The two victims were stabbed within a kilometer of each other and neither is believed to have known the attacker.

They were rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital under stable conditions. The food delivery man has now been fired and the taxi driver is expected to be released from hospital on Sunday.

A 38-year-old man was sitting in his taxi at the intersection of Walker and James streets when a random man opened his passenger door and attacked him at 11 p.m., police said.

“He then got out of the taxi and walked away,” said Detective Chief Inspector Dean Johnstone.

“The taxi driver indicated to us that it was quite a horrific ordeal that he had to endure.”

The man’s hand and the left side of his chest were injured in the attack.

An hour and a half later, officers were called to Morehead Street after reports that a food delivery driver had been attacked by a man coming out of an apartment building.

“While treating that victim it was determined that he had also suffered a number of stab wounds to the back,” Detective Chief Inspector Johnstone said.

“It is believed the person involved in these stabbings is the same person.

‘It is very frightening and it concerns us very much that these two gentlemen were actually working in work-related roles at the time of the attacks.

“These are two members of our community who have gone out there and are doing their job.”

The police suspect that the suspect lives or is staying in the area where the attack occurred.

No motive has been identified as the cause of the stabbings and police have said they do not believe one no demands were made on property.

Detectives will interview both victims as part of the investigation.
