New York police are hunting a suspect who allegedly shot a 47-year-old man on the Upper West Side and drove into Central Park.

The victim was hit in the leg and shoulder at around 9:30 a.m. today at West 69th Street and Columbus Avenue.

He was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital by emergency responders and is expected to survive, police said Daily news from New York.

Officials believe the suspect encountered the B and C lines subway station at 72nd Street and Central Park West – where he jumped onto the tracks and encountered a northbound train tunnel.

There were widespread rumors that the suspect was trapped under an oncoming train, but authorities have since debunked these rumors.

Responding officers had turned off the station’s power line to allow walking on the tracks, but to no avail, causing persistent delays on the A, B, C and D lines.

They now believe the suspect escaped the tunnel through an emergency exit on 76th Street and are now searching the park itself.

According to ABC NewsThe gunman is 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing a white hat, green jacket and blue underhood while holding a black handgun.

New Yorker Steve Greene, an eyewitness, told the station: ‘I heard two loud shots. And I jumped out of my car and ran over here and I saw the shooter.

‘And he was standing here pointing a gun, I heard the glass shatter. I’m not sure how that happened. There was a truck parked here blocking my view and he was walking on the other side.”

It is unclear what injuries the victim suffered and whether the men knew each other prior to the altercation.

The shootout took place at Sutter Avenue Station in East New York, Brooklyn, around 3 p.m. Officers later took Derell Mickles, 37, into custody as a suspect.

Police say two officers assigned to the transit department followed the suspect up the stairs, who had not paid his fare, and jumped the turnstile.

“The officers ask him to stop. The man refuses to stop at a certain point on the platform.

The male mutters the words, ‘I’m going to kill you if you don’t stop following me,'” NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said.

After leaving voluntarily, he came back to the station, jumped the turnstile again, verbally threatened the officers and then pulled the knife.

Despite being warned 38 times, the suspect did not hesitate and had to be tasered by police.

But this did not subdue him and he got into a physical fight with them

One officer was reportedly shot in the right side of the torso while a 26-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet and 49-year-old Gregory Delpeche was left seriously injured, according to ABC7.

A second officer was taken to the hospital but was not shot.
