Actress Mandy McElhinney explains why she can never get away from her character ‘Rhonda’ from the AAMI ads – more than a decade after that iconic on-screen romance with ‘Ketut’
Mandy McElhinney is perhaps most famous for appearing in a much-loved series of insurance advertisements that aired more than a decade ago.
In 2012, Mandy and actor Kadek Mahardika played Rhonda and Ketut in the famous AAMI commercials.
Rhonda and Ketut’s ads first appeared to promote AAMI’s safe driver insurance.
In the series of advertisements, Rhonda meets her younger lover while on vacation in Bali, before their summer love turns into a long-term relationship.
Mandy, 52, admits she’ll never quite escape the role of Rhonda, but she understands why.

“Some people recognize me right away, and it’s always a really funny conversation,” she said The Daily Telegraph this week.
“People have very fond memories of that relationship and that time,” the Halifax: Retribution star continued.
“There was something incredibly sweet about her, her lack of pretense, her candor, and her desire for love.
“I think people want good things to happen to good people, and I think she represented that.”
said Mandy recently TV weekshe almost gave up acting after filming season one of Wakefield in 2021.

“Many of us thought it would go again [for season two] but unfortunately they couldn’t bring it back,” she explained.
‘Many of my colleagues have left the industry, I almost joined myself.’
Mandy said co-writing and starring in the recent theater show Dirty Birds with her sister Hayley “saved” her.
“This project with Hayley saved me in a way because we were able to figure out what stories we wanted to tell.”
She continued, “I have no control over my career at all. I can only be thankful for the opportunities that arise.’
Mandy is also known for her roles in TV shows including Love Child and Bad Mothers and recently she also appeared in Home And Away.
