REVEALED: Man United target Wout Weghorst ‘clashed with his Burnley team-mates because his confidence was seen as ARROGANCE’ as talks continue over his surprising January loan move

Wout Weghorst could soon become a Manchester United player after it was revealed the Premier League side have started negotiations with the striker’s parent club Burnley.

But as the Dutchman, currently on loan at Turkish club Besiktas, dreams of a move to Manchester and another stab at the English top flight, questions have been raised about his attitude.

Weghorst, has enjoyed a stellar season so far at Besiktas, scoring nine goals in 18 appearances for the Turkish outfit, and has put himself in the frame for a January move to United.

Weghorst (centre) reportedly clashed with his teammates at Burnley last season

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen to bring a new striker to the club in January.

While he can be seen as a relatively calm character off the pitch, the striker comes with an aura of confidence that some of his Burnley teammates saw as arrogance, as reported by The Athletic.

Seen as the striker who would help Burnley achieve another escape from Premier League relegation, Weghorst arrived in England at the start of 2022 with a reputation as one of the most dangerous strikers in the Bundesliga, racking up 70 goals in 144 appearances in the Bundesliga. Bundesliga.

Weghorst’s confidence was sometimes seen as arrogance at Burnley

The 30-year-old was unable to replicate the goalscoring form that earned him a move to England, but his determination to improve his craft led him to clash with other Burnley stars.

The club’s tumultuous 21/22 season ended in relegation with Weghorst unable to stop the rot as Burnley fell back to the Championship, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying from the Dutchman.

Weghorst was so determined to make his move to England a success that he would message his teammates late at night to discuss tactics and was not afraid to call players if he didn’t think they were trying hard enough.

As relegation approached, Weghorst continued to embellish his ultra-competitive attitude, with suggestions that some of his teammates took this as arrogance rather than confidence in their own abilities.

Burnley’s Premier League sacking confirmed Weghorst’s departure with a clause inserted into his contract allowing him to leave if the club were relegated.

Weghorst would offer a different dynamic to Manchester United’s impressive attack

Now in Besiktas, Manchester United’s tricky approach would require Weghorst’s current loan deal to be broken and he then return to Burnley before returning to Old Trafford on loan.

At 6-foot-6, Weghorst would offer Man United’s attack an alternative option that currently eludes them with Reds boss Ten Hag desperate to bring in a centre-forward during the January transfer window but limited to offers from loan only by club owners.
